Merdeka Promo For Proton Saga As Model Celebrates 39th Production Year

The Proton Saga, Malaysia’s first-ever car, and symbol of national pride, has achieved a remarkable milestone in its 39th year of production. With 7,855 units sold in July, the Proton Saga recorded its highest monthly sales since October 2013. This brings the year-to-date sales total to 42,693 units of Saga, marking an 8.8% year-on-year increase. As a result, this achievement pushes the Saga’s cumulative sales beyond the 2 million mark, sinceits launch on 9 July 1985, cementing its position as the most popular model produced by a Malaysian automotive brand. To celebrate this sales success, PROTON has announced the “SAGA-MERDEKA EASY TO OWN” campaign, offering Malaysians the opportunity to own the iconic Saga with exclusive promotions throughout August. As part of the campaign, buyers will receive a RM500 cash rebate on the purchase of any Proton Saga model Furthermore, Maybank customers are eligible for an additional RM200 rebate by presenting a promotional message from the bank to participating Proton dealers. This offer is available exclusively for walk-in bookings made on the weekends of August 10 and 17.

PROTON is also working closely with its partner, Zhejiang Geely Holding Ltd to explore model enhancements based on the existing platforms. The efforts have been ongoing and is bolstered by the establishment of the PROTON R&D Centre in China in April. The upgrading of PROTON’s homegrown models will involve leveraging joint resources with Geely to support the work led by PROTON R&D engineers in Malaysia.

The ability to conceptualise, design, develop and manufacture new vehicles from the ground up is unique for PROTON as a national brand. These abilities are strengthened by enhancing the synergies of PROTON’s existing in-house competencies with the resources and experience of Geely. PROTON will also be able to enhance its competitiveness by leveraging on Geely’s global footprint.
