GWM Launches Tank 300 In Malaysia

Great Wall Motor (GWM) Malaysia has technically launched the GWM Tank 300. But instead of organising a launch event, it is offering something experiential at the M4TREC off-road course in Semenyih, Selangor.

The GWM Tank 300 SUV is designed as a muscular urban warrior with very competent off-road capabilities. In its home market of China, the Tank 300 has held the segment lead for 42 consecutive months. And in just 3 years, GWM had sold over 300,000 units globally. The Tank 300 is available in Australia, Central Asia, ASEAN, the Middle East and South Africa.

The GWM Tank 300 is fitted with a 2.0L 4-cylinder turbocharged direct injection petrol engine and an 8-speed automatic transmission that delivers 220 PS (217 hp) @ 5,500 rpm and 380 Nm of torque @ 1,800 – 3,600 rpm. It features a part-time 4WD system, front AND rear electronic differential locks, and a robust ladder frame chassis. Additionally, it also has a fairly large 75-litre fuel tank.

The key off-road features include Tank Turn Assist which reduces the turning circle, Crawl Control (CCO) which controls torque and braking for enhanced off-road agility, and a Transparent Chassis Function which uses cameras to enhance visibility beneath the vehicle to eliminate blind spots while driving. Physically, the Tank 300 has 224 mm of ground clearance and a maximum wading depth of 700 mm. It also has a maximum gradability of over 70%, approach and departure angles of 33° and 34° respectively, and a 23.1° ramp angle. With the All-Terrain Progress Control System (ATPCS), the Tank 300 offers 9 driving modes i.e. Standard (2H), Standard (4H), Snow Mode (4H), 4L Mode (Normal, Mud/Sand, Pothole, Mountain, Rock), and Expert Mode to cater to a wide range of driving conditions. We got to take the Tank 300 through an off-road course and it did not complain about any of the obstacles, even when running on Michelin Primacy SUV road tyres.

On the exterior, the GWM Tank 300 wears a pair of round headlight clusters with horizontal daytime running lights to add some curves to the square, muscular body with wide wheel arches. The rear looks the part of a dedicated off-roader with the externally mounted spare 18″ wheel hung on the side-hinged tailgate. The Tank 300’s dimensions are 4,750 mm (length), 1,930 mm (width), 1,903 mm (height), atop a wheelbase measuring 2,750 mm.

The cabin dual features dual 12.3” screens for instrumentation and infotainment, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity, 9-speaker Infinity sound system, wireless charging, USB ports, 12V outlets in the front and rear, 220V power outlet in the rear, an aviation-style gear shifter, and 64-colour mood lighting. The seats have faux Nappa leather accents, with the front seats getting heating and cooling functions. Furthermore, the driver’s seat has 8-way electric adjustment with lumbar support and a massage function. Meanwhile, the rear passenger seats’ backrest offers 2 levels of adjustment and a 60:40 split fold for accommodating large items. Cabin ambience is improved by the acoustic glass used on the windshield and the front windows.

The GWM TANK 300 also comes with L2 ADAS Driving Assistance features such as Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), Intelligent Cruise Adaptation (ICA), Lane Central Keeping (LCK), Traffic Jam Assist (TJA), and Lane Keeping Assist (LKA). A 360-degree camera and extensive radar systems further enhance safety, contributing to its 5-star ANCAP safety rating. Additional safety features include auto collision unlocking, auto collision fuel cut-off, and 6 integrated side and front airbags.

The GWM Tank 300 is fully imported and priced at RM250,000. It is available in 4 exterior colour choices i.e. Dusk Orange, Fossil Grey, Crystal Black, and Pearl White.

Mike Cui An Qi, Managing Director of GWM Malaysia: “To us at GWM, providing an off-road SUV that impresses not only with its looks but also with its comfort and luxury, without compromising safety or performance, is essential. We strive to ensure every journey is enjoyed to the fullest, with complete peace of mind.” ???
