GAC AION Y Plus EV Launched In Malaysia; Priced From RM120k

WTC Automotif (M) Sdn Bhd (WTCA), the sole distributor of GAC AION electric vehicles, has officially launched the 2024 GAC AION Y Plus all-electric crossover in Malaysia. The AION Y Plus was first previewed in February. Launched on Press Day at the Malaysia Autoshow 2024, the GAC AION Y Plus comes in ‘Elite’ and ‘Premium’ variants.

The GAC AION Y Plus is priced at RM119,800 for the Elite variant, and RM135,800 for the Premium variant. There are 7 exterior colour options and 5 interior colourways to choose from, providing buyers with 35 combinations.

Built on the dedicated EV platform, AEP 2.0, it houses a 63.2 kWh Magazine Battery 2.0 pack which offer up to 490 km of driving range under the NEDC protocol. The battery’s design has been rigorously tested for safety, including a shooting test with high-caliber ballistics, which did not cause the battery to explode or catch fire.

Both variants are powered by a motor that sends up to 150 kW (204 PS / 201 hp) and 225 Nm of torque to the front wheels. The e-motor offers 4 driving modes, including an ‘i-Pedal’ single-pedal driving mode. Officially, the AION Y Plus does a 0 – 100 km/h sprint in 8.5 seconds.

On the exterior, the AION Y Plus features a unique ‘Angel Wing’ LED headlights, ‘Skyline’ LED rear light bar, powered stow-away door handles, a panoramic sunroof, and 18″ alloy wheels.

Inside, the AION Y Plus boasts a spacious cabin that include a 6-way power-adjustable driver’s seat, 10.25″ digital instrument cluster, climate control with rear vents and a built-in PM2.5 air filter, and a 14.6″ touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay. The Premium variant further adds driver’s seat ventilation, power-adjustable front passenger seat, wireless charging pad, and a 32-colour ambient lighting system with music mode.

Standard safety features include 6 airbags, ABS, Vehicle Dynamics Control (VDC), Hill-Hold Control (HHC), 360-degree view monitor, and tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS). The Premium variant also includes Level 2 semi-autonomous driving features such as Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), Forward Collision Warning (FCW), Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB), Lane-Departure Warning (LDW), and Traffic Jam Assist (TJA).

WTCA includes a comprehensive warranty and aftersales package for the GAC AION Y Plus, with an 8-year (or 160,000 km) base vehicle warranty and an 8-year (or 200,000 km) EV battery, drive motor, and electric control warranty.

To celebrate the launch, WTCA is offering an exclusive early bird promotion for the first 200 bookings. Early adopters will receive a complimentary 7 kW Home Wallbox Charger worth RM3,500 and RM1,000 in JomCharge charging credits. This promotion is supported by a new partnership with EV Connection Sdn Bhd (EVC), Malaysia’s leading EV charging company. EVC, the largest EV charging network provider with over 1,000 chargers nationwide, will offer GAC AION Y Plus customers access to the all-new Auto-charge feature to make the charging experience more convenient.

Additionally, early adopters can choose from 2 specially curated accessory packages i.e. the Outdoor Adventure Lifestyle Set, which includes a GAC AION-branded camping set and a V2L (vehicle-to-load) cable for the Premium variant, and the “Me-Time” Mobile Theatre Set, which transforms the car into an in-car movie theatre. Deliveries of the GAC AION Y Plus Elite variant will begin in June 2024, with the Premium variant following in July 2024. The AION Y Plus will first be sold as CBU (completely built-up) units; there are plans for local assembly but this won’t happen so soon.
