Urgent Recall Alert: Audi Owners, Check Your Airbags Now

Attention all Audi owners in Malaysia… PHS Automotive Malaysia (PHSAM) has issued an urgent reminder regarding an ongoing airbag recall affecting Audi vehicles. If you own an Audi Q5, A5 Cabriolet, A5 Sportback, TT, or R8 model manufactured between specific years, you need to take action.

What’s the Issue? A total of 2,297 units of Audi vehicles are said to be affected. The affected ones include the Audi Q5, A5 Cabriolet and A5 Sportback models manufactured between 2009 and 2012, and Audi TT and R8 models manufactured between 2014 and 2017 which have Takata airbags installed on the driver’s side. Additionally, the Audi A4, A4 Cabriolet and A6 models manufactured between 2005 and 2011 with Takata airbags for the passenger side are also affected. Audi_Steering Wheel_Q5

Why the Recall? According to the airbag manufacturer, Takata, it had identified a critical flaw. The gas generator within these airbags might rupture during an accident if the propellant inside it displays signs of
ageing due to extreme ambient influences. As a result, metal pieces of the gas generator can eject through the passenger compartment and severely injure the occupants.

What Should You Do? Owners of the affected models are advised to have their vehicle inspected and have the airbag replaced as soon as possible. You need to contact an Audi Service Centre as soon as possible for a thorough inspection and potential replacement of the faulty airbags. Depending on your vehicle’s model and the airbag fitting, either a component propellant or complete airbag module replacement will be conducted free of charge. As a bonus, enjoy a complimentary 20-point vehicle check after the inspection.

PHSAM shared that currently, the take-up rate to replace the airbag is only 25%, which is 569 vehicles out of 2,297.
