2024 Volkswagen Touareg R-Line CKD Launched In Malaysia

Volkswagen Passenger Cars Malaysia (VPCM) has launched the all-new 2024 Volkswagen Touareg R-Line. The launch of VW’s flagship SUV marks a milestone for the Malaysian market as it is locally assembled in Pekan, Pahang. The Touareg, now in its 3rd generation, has a special place in Volkswagen’s history as the brand’s first SUV, debuting in 2002. With over 1.14 million units sold worldwide, it continues to be one its most popular SUVs.

“The Touareg carries the biggest significance for Volkswagen and is a pioneer in so many ways. This was our first SUV, truly the DNA of Volkswagen’s SUVs began with the Touareg. This flagship VW SUV is powered by a 3.0L V6 TSI engine which delivers 340 PS (335 hp) and 450 Nm of torque. The engine is paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission and intelligent 4MOTION system to offer dynamic performance and sure-footed traction on any terrain.Visually, the Touareg projects a commanding stance courtesy of its refreshed front and rear design elements. Notable enhancements include a redesigned radiator grille, headlights, and front apron, along with a sharper rear end featuring a continuous horizontal LED strip and an illuminated rear Volkswagen logo. The illuminated logo was previously only available in markets such as China and USA.

On the topic of illumination, besides the LED strip that sits in the front grille, the main source of light comes from a pair of IQ LIGHT HD MATRIX headlights, touted as one of the best lighting systems in the world. The intelligent matrix headlights have more than 38,000 interactive micro-LEDs to provide precise lighting of the road and signage.

Another first for a Volkswagen in Malaysia is the Night Vision feature which enhances visibility in nighttime driving. The system uses an infrared sensor in the camera to detect thermal signatures from humans or animals, up to 130 metres ahead to keep the driver aware of potential collision. Rounding off the executive exterior appearance are a set of 20″ Braga alloy wheels.

In the cabin, passengers are treated to a luxurious and technologically advanced environment. The 730W 13-speaker Dynaudio Consequence sound system, with an 80W amplifier, provides an immersive “concert hall” experience. While the Touareg-exclusive 4-zone climate control provides a customisable cool environment for front and rear passengers. Rear passengers can tailor the temperature, blower intensity and direction of the air to their preference, while the front occupants can enjoy Active Climate Seats for added comfort.

For the driver, the highlight is the Innovision Cockpit which merges the 15″ touchscreen Discover Pro Max infotainment display with the 12.3″ digital cockpit for a seamless one-screen design. Complementing the infotainment system are Wireless App-Connect and wireless phone charging.

In terms of practicality, the Volkswagen Touareg offers great versatility thanks to its air suspension system with Automatic Self-Levelling. This system automatically adjusts vehicle height to match terrain conditions, and can lower the ride height by 40 mm for easier loading or unloading of cargo. Cargo space expands to 810 litres with the rear seats down. Furthermore, a water wading level of 550 mm offers greater confidence when driving in Malaysia in the rain.

Besides the Night Vision feature, the Touareg also gets IQ.DRIVE advanced safety technology. This includes Adaptive Cruise Control ACC (with Stop & Go), Area View, Autonomous Emergency Braking Front Assist, Automatic Post-Collision Braking, Lane Assist / Lane Keeping, Park Assist, Side Assist with Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Advanced Driver Attention & Drowsiness Monitor and a Tyre Pressure Monitoring System. This Touareg is also the first Volkswagen model to be offered with Front Cross Traffic Assist, which uses the vehicle’s radar to monitor traffic approaching from either side at a junction. To mitigate the risk of a collision, the driver will first be warned, and if no action is taken, the automatic emergency braking will be activated.
