Malaysia will lead JAECOO’s expansion in Southeast Asia as it gets the honour to be the first country in the region to debut the JAECOO J7 SUV. As a new and rising brand in the premium off-roader segment, JAECOO is swiftly making its mark on the global stage. Guided by the brand ethos of “From Classic, Beyond Classic,” JAECOO’s urban premium off-road SUV, the J7, is poised to make waves this year.
The JAECOO J7 was recently launched in Mexico on 20 February to widespread recognition and praise. Malaysia will see the official launch of the J7 within the first half of 2024, as JAECOO moves to extend its presence in right-hand-drive markets.
In a preview event held in January in Malaysia, prospective dealer investors and media outlets got an exclusive first look at the J7. The JAECOO J7 has a 2,672 mm wheelbase, with a body measuring 4,500 mm long, 1,865 mm wide, and 1,680 mm tall, making it a C-segment SUV. Its boot volume is claimed at 412 litres. Additionally, this 5-seater SUV has a ground clearance of 200 mm and a water wading capability of 600 mm.
To put the J7’s off-road capabilities and real-world performance to the test, JAECOO conducted comprehensive testing at the M4TREC off-road track after the preview event. With the aid of its ARDIS (All Road Drive Intelligent System) the J7 managed to tackle some extreme off-road tests, including the roller ramp, articulation test, and ridge crossings, etc.
The ARDIS system offers the most diverse driving modes in its class, class, including sand, snowfield, mud, and another 7 off-road functions to cover a diverse range of scenarios, even in the urban environment. The ARDIS system is also connected to the BOSCH Intelligent Power Brake (IPB) control system to deliver a lightning-fast response time of less than 0.1 seconds, the fastest in its class. Furthermore, its rear axle has a torque rating of up to 3,000 Nm, thereby enhancing the J7’s ability to bail out of tricky situations.
The JAECOO J7 is powered by a 1.6L TGDI turbo engine paired with a 7-speed wet dual-clutch transmission. Output is rated at 194 hp (145 kW) and 290 Nm to help it do a 0 to 100 km/h sprint in 8 seconds. Acceleration from 0 to 30 km/h is clocked at 2.9 seconds, and rivals the performance of some luxury brands’ 2.0L turbo engines.
Malaysia is seen as a key strategic hub in JAECOO’s global expansion plans, with the brand committed to delivering unique lifestyle-oriented driving experiences.
