MAN Truck & Bus Achieved Significant Sales Growth In 2023
MAN Truck & Bus achieved significant sales growth in its 2023 financial year in all its product areas. The company delivered a total of 116,000 commercial vehicles to customers, a growth of 37% year-on-year, despite experiencing supply bottlenecks and a pandemic-related decline in demand in the bus segment. In the same year, MAN also sold 11,600 engines.
MAN’s truck division recorded a sales growth 44% year-on-year, delivering 83,700 trucks to its customers in 2023. Similarly, its bus sales also grew by 19% to around 5,700 units. All segments recorded strong growth, with the market for coaches in particular, making a rebound in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic. Sales of coaches more than doubled to over 1,100 vehicles globally.
MAN was also able to win important tenders to supply city buses, with the trend moving towards battery-electric vehicles continuing unabated. As a result, sales of e-buses increased further to 771 vehicles, from the 263 units sold 2022. Together with the market launch of the eTruck in October, MAN is continuing to systematically pursue its strategy of decarbonizing its vehicle fleet. By 2030, half of all new MAN trucks and around 90% of all new city buses will come with battery-electric drive. Work is also already underway on the electric coach of the future.
As for its van business, MAN Truck & Bus had exceeded the pre-pandemic figures and delivered more vans than ever before. Around 26,600 vans were handed over to customers, representing a year-on-year increase of 23%.
Meanwhile, the external engine business can look back on the 2nd most successful year in its history after 2014. MAN managed to sell 11,600 engines in 2023 with more than half of them to customers in the agricultural sector, for use heavy machinery such as tractors and combine harvesters.
“After some very challenging years, we are back on the road to success. We were able to score points with our innovative product portfolio and our customer-oriented services, which is one of the reasons why the 2023 financial year brought us record sales in some cases. Thanks to a strong team performance across all areas of the company, we were able to meet the extremely high demand in the best possible way and deliver more vehicles and engines than we have for years,” commented Friedrich Baumann, Chief Sales and Customer Solutions Officer at MAN Truck & Bus SE.
