Edaran Modenas Launches Kymco AK550 Premium Touring Maxi Scooter
Edaran Modenas has launched the Kymco AK550 premium touring maxi scooter in Malaysia. The scooter is sold as a CBU (completely built-up) unit and has a retail price of RM65,600 (excluding insurance and road tax). 
Powering the maxi scooter is a newly designed inline-2 550.4 cc liquid cooled DOHC 8V engine with 51hp and 52 Nm of torque connected to a CVT (continuously variable transmission). Its fuel tank size is 14.5 litres. Surrounding the engine is a rigid aluminium frame that is also light on weight. The lightweight 15″ radial tyres are also combined with hollow designed diecast aluminium wheels to reduce unsprung weight further. The listed kerb weight is 238 kg.
The wheels are connected to a Brembo braking system i.e. twin 4-piston calipers in the front and single 2-piston caliper at the rear, that work with an Advanced Intelligent Braking System (AIBS). AIBS includes a lean bank angle sensor that regulates brake force during cornering for better stability. Enhancing the stability and agility further are a set of upside down fork front suspension, complemented by a trailing arm rear suspension.
The Kymco AK550 offers 2 riding modes to adapt to different conditions. There is the normal ‘Full Power’ mode and then there is the ‘Rain Mode’ which gives a softer throttle response to gently put out the power to the rear wheel in order to maximise traction on a wet surface. The AK550 is also fitted with a cruise control function to make long rides easier.
Other features include a smart key system with keyless ignition, full LED lighting, electrically adjustable windshield, an underseat storage that fits a full-face helmet and a semi-covered helmet, low seat height (785 mm) for improved ergonomics for a wide range of riders, colour LCD displays, and the Noodoe connected scooter system. There are also 2 glove compartments in the front for extra storage of smaller items.
There are 2 body colour choices for the Kymco AK550 Premium i.e. Flat Brown or Black.
