Toyota And Lexus See Increase In Overall Sales For 2023
UMW Toyota Motor Sdn Bhd (UMWT) ended 2023 on a positive with increase in overall sales for 2023. The total sales volume in 2023 for Toyota and Lexus amounted to 108,107 vehicles, which is 7% higher than the 101,035 vehicles recorded in 2022. In the month of December 2023, UMWT sold 10,079 units of Toyota and 323 units of Lexus.
At the same time, UMWT recorded 1,342,130 returning customers for aftersales services in the 12 months of 2023, which is a testament to customer satisfaction and its efficiency in automotive care.

Toyota is also solidifying its commitment to support Malaysia’s ambitious goal of achieving net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050, a key milestone expressed in the National Energy Transition Roadmap (NETR). By aligning its strategies with the nation’s environmental targets, Toyota is showing the essence of corporate citizenship and its dedication to fostering positive change in the automotive landscape.
Datuk Ravindran K. emphasised, “We’ve always prioritised maintaining the highest standards and quality in our vehicles, coupled with reinforcing customer satisfaction. As we look forward to 2024, our focus will be on introducing more models, particularly with an emphasis on xEV technologies”.
As part of its sustainability initiative, UMWT’s annual Toyota Eco Youth (TEY) programme, in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, helps spread the environmental awareness to students. The TEY 2023-2024 programme involves teams of 4 secondary school students aged between 13-16, and a teacher advisor, undertaking projects that address specific environmental concerns within their communities. The current edition has the participation of 15 schools nationwide which have been equipped with the Toyota 8 Steps Problem-Solving Methodology and a RM3,000 grant to help the teams kick-start their initiatives and encourage creative problem-solving.
Through community-oriented initiatives such as the Toyota Eco Youth programme, Datuk Ravindran K. said, “Here, we hope to inspire problem-solving efforts and contribution to a better future within the community, especially among our youth, embodying the spirit of Malaysia Madani. Through TEY, we want to empower the youth to be not just spectators but active contributors to a sustainable and innovative Malaysia”.
UMWT also continue to expand consumer access to car ownership via the ‘Drive into the New Year with Toyota’ promotion in December, offering customers up to a 100% loan for selected models. Buyers were able to enjoy promotional savings and affordable monthly instalments. In addition, to help keep cars in tip-top shape, the Toyota Service Savers programme continued to offer promotional monthly instalment rates starting from only RM18.
