Perodua Official Statement Regarding Daihatsu’s Announcement On Its “Procedural Irregularities”.

Daihatsu Motor Co., Ltd. (DMC) has received the investigation results of an independent 3rd party committee on the reported procedural irregularities in April 2023. In its announcement, the company revealed that the independent investigation found new irregularities in 174 items within 25 test categories. This is in addition to the door lining irregularity highlighted in April and also the side collision test irregularity in May. These irregularities involve a total of 64 models (Daihatsu, Toyota and Subaru) and 3 engines, including models currently in production, in development as well as discontinued models. This includes 22 models and 1 engine (1KR-FE) being sold by Toyota in Japan, and in effect would include Perodua models. Daihatsu Rocky

Based on these findings, DMC has decided to temporarily suspend shipments of all Daihatsu-developed models currently in production, both in Japan and overseas. Similarly, Toyota has also decided to temporarily suspend shipments of the affected models. This is to enable the company to conduct technical verifications and testing to ensure compliance to legal and safety standards.

Pursuant to DMC’s announcement on the suspension of its models, Perodua has issued an official statement regarding the “procedural irregularities”.

Dato’ Sri Zainal Abidin Ahmad, President & CEO of Perodua said:

“The third-party committee report, confirmed by DMC said: “these verifications and tests confirmed that all 174 irregularities pointed out by the third-party committee satisfied the standards set by laws and regulations”.

We are doing a detailed assessment on the matter and are currently in discussion with Malaysian authorities as to the impact of this development to our vehicles.

As background, on 28th April 2023, DMC announced of “procedural irregularities” when conducting safety tests on vehicles in Japan. Following that announcement, DMC has established a third-party investigative committee consisting of lawyers and technical personnel.

We sincerely apologise to our valued customers and the general public for any alarm this announcement may bring. Our intent is to reach out and assure our valued customers.

We will share the outcome of this discussion with the public in due course.” Perodua Aruz AV_Passion Red
