smart #1 In Malaysia; 3 Variants With Prices Starting From RM189k
The smart #1 is officially launched in Malaysia with 3 variants available from RM189,000. This is the first BEV (battery electric vehicle) to be distributed by the PROTON group via its subsidiary Proton New Energy Technology Sdn Bhd (PRO-NET).
PRO-NET is the exclusive distributor for smart #1 in Malaysia and Thailand, and has worked to strengthen its support for the PROTON EV roadmap by acquiring valuable insights and seamlessly establishing an integrated EV ecosystem. This covers a dealer network, aftersales services, localised user-friendly ‘Hello smart’ app, and high-voltage battery management in Malaysia.

There are 3 smart #1 variants for sale i.e. smart #1 Pro (RM189,000), #1 Premium (RM219,000) and #1 BRABUS (RM249,000). The first 2 variants are single-motor rear-wheel-drive EVs while the Brabus is a dual-motor all-wheel-drive tuned for performance.
Power output of the #1 Pro and #1 Premium are the same i.e. 200 kW (272 PS) and 343 Nm of torque, which allows for a 0 – 100 km/h acceleration time of 6.7 seconds. Top speed is capped at 180 km/h. In contrast, the #1 Brabus has 315 kW (428 PS) and 543 Nm at its disposal and can do the 0 – 100 km/h sprint in 3.9 seconds. However, top speed is also capped at 180 km/h.
One of the key differences between the #1 Pro and Premium variants is the battery size. The Pro gets a 49 kWh lithium ferrophosphate (LFP) battery that provides up to 315 km range on a full charge. Meanwhile, the Premium, and Brabus, get a 66 kWh NMC (lithium nickel manganese cobalt) battery offering up to 440 km range (up to 400 km for Brabus).
The Pro’s battery takes 6 hours to get from 10% to 80% using 7.2 kW AC charging, and only 22 minutes to do the same with 150 kW DC charging. The Premium and Brabus variants accept 22 kW AC charging and spend 3 hours to get the battery from 10% to 80%; 29 minutes via 150 kW DC charging.
Notable differences between the Pro and Premium the Premium gets such features as Cybersparks Matrix LED headlamps with adaptive high beam, illuminated grille, and hand-free powered tailgate. The #1 Brabus gets sportier red trim all around, a Brabus aero kit, rear spoiler as well as stiffer suspension set-up. However, all 3 variants use 19″ wheels but in differing designs.
To give off a more premium urban and expressive vibe, the smart #1 comes with a wide choice of striking colours. Buyers will be able to pick from a total of 10 colour combinations, including Future Green, Quantum Blue, Digital White, Cyber Silver, Lumen Yellow, Laser Red, Atom Grey – Matte (Atom Roof), Atom Grey – Matte (Red Roof), Cyber Silver (Red Roof), and Meta Black (Red Roof). You can choose the exclusive colour Atom Grey – Matte for an additional RM5,000. Additionally, there are 3 variant specific interior styles, the ‘After Dark’ trim for smart #1 Pro, the 2-tone white and black ‘Dark Matter’ trim for smart #1 Premium, and the exclusive ‘BRABUS’ interior for the smart #1 Brabus.
On the inside, you will find a 12.8″ infotainment touchscreen with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity, 9.2″ instrument cluster and wireless phone charger. The Pro variant comes with polyurethane steering wheel, leatherette seats featuring 10-way powered front seats (with memory function for driver), 5 speakers, dual-zone climate control with N95 carbon filter, panoramic moonroof with a powered sunshade, and chiller function in the centre armrest storage. Meanwhile, the Premium gets leather upholstery, ventilated front seats, 10″ colour head-up display (HUD), 13-speaker, 640 W Beats sound system, and illuminated door sills. In contrast, the Brabus variant adds seats in ultrasuede, sporty aluminium pedals, and Brabus branding.
The smart #1’s boot space measures at 323 litres and can be extended to 411 litres with the rear bench slid forward. Folding down the seats will grow cargo volume to 986 litres.
