BYD Dolphin Is A0-Level Hatchback Sales Leader For 19 Consecutive Months In China
The BYD Dolphin, launched here in July, has been consistently leading sales of the A0-level hatchback segment in China for 19 consecutive months. The A0 level class of cars have a wheelbase between 2.2 – 2.3 metres. Incidentally at the end of September, BYD celebrated the production of the 500,000th unit of the Dolphin, one of its core new energy vehicle offerings.
The BYD Dolphin is also exported to various countries to offer customers worldwide a green mobility option. The Dolphin was launched in Brazil in June 2023 and had sold over 4,000 units within just 2 months, setting a new record for electric vehicle (EV) sales in Brazil. It was also Brazil’s best-selling EV in August.
Closer to home, in Thailand, the Dolphin placed 5th in the EV sales chart in its first month on the market, with 481 units delivered. In the UK, it recently completed its first test drive event, earning widespread acclaim from the media.
The BYD Dolphin is the first model built on the brand’s e-Platform 3.0 that is exclusively designed for pure electric vehicles. This platform is designed to prioritise rigidity, cabin space and aerodynamics. With a highly integrated 8-in-1 electric powertrain, this EV achieves substantial safety and range. Further, the seamless integration of BYD’s ultra-safe Blade Battery within the e-Platform 3.0 assures users of a good driving experience.
Embracing the Ocean Aesthetics design language, the Dolphin is inspired nature, combining curvy emotional elements of waves with strong character lines for a distinctive styling. The interior of the Dolphin reflects its eco-friendly ethos, with the sports seats wrapped in sustainable vegan leather, offering both long-distance comfort and strong lateral support with marine-inspired aesthetics.
BYD has an aim to lead in clean energy. Founded in 1995 as a rechargeable battery maker, BYD now has diversified into automobiles, rail transit, new energy, and electronics, operating in over 30 industrial parks in China, the United States, Canada, Japan, Brazil, Hungary, and India. From energy generation and storage to its applications, BYD is dedicated to providing zero-emission energy solutions that reduce global reliance on fossil fuels. It has committed to over 5.1 million new energy passenger cars globally. Operating in 400 cities across 70 countries and regions on 6 continents, BYD took a significant step in 2022 by discontinuing the production of ICE (internal combustion engine) vehicles to focus exclusively on BEVs (battery electric vehicles) and PHEVs (plug-in hybrid electric vehicles). It has a strong commitment to its “Cool the Earth by 1°C” vision, and will continue to leverage on technological innovations for a more sustainable future.
