Ford Ranger Raptor Bi-Turbo Diesel Launched In Malaysia
The Ford Ranger Raptor now has a twin, with the official launch of the Ranger Raptor 2.0L Bi-turbo diesel version. Complementing the 3.0L twin turbo EcoBoost V6 petrol variant is the 2.0L diesel engine with 210 PS @ 3,750 rpm and 500 Nm of torque @ 1,750 – 2,000 rpm. The bi-turbo diesel engine was first introduced in 2018 in the previous generation Ranger Raptor. This presents consumers with a tried and tested engine that also offers torque and fuel efficiency. The diesel variant claims an average fuel consumption of 8.2 litres per 100 km.
To compare, the 3.0L petrol variant has 397 PS @ 5,650 rpm and 583 Nm of torque @ 3,500 rpm, with both petrol and diesel engines paired with 10-speed e-shift automatic gearboxes.
Features built into the diesel variant include stop/start function, battery monitoring system, high-efficiency alternators, LED daytime running lights, active transmission warm-up, and a cooling fan with brushless motor to reduce electrical losses. Additionally, the gearbox uses ultra-low viscosity transmission fluid, while the rear axle uses a synthetic fluid to reduce losses in the driveline.
Just like the petrol variant, this diesel variant also has the same reinforced chassis to handle challenging terrain, including unique frames for the jounce bumper, shock tower, and rear shock bracket. The same redesigned suspension set-up with the new Fox 2.5″ Internal Bypass shock absorbers (front) and refined Watt’s link (rear) is here, combined with an advanced permanent 4WD system with all-new electronically controlled on-demand 2-speed transfer case with rear locking differentials.
The Fox absorbers are tuned by Ford Performance and are the most sophisticated ever put in a Ranger Raptor. The absorbers are filled with a Teflon-infused oil which reduces friction by about 50% compared to the previous Raptor. This pickup is also fitted with Fox’s race-proven Bottom-Out Control and 2.3 mm high-strength steel plate bash, as well as an under shield and transfer case shield for added protection. Coming standard too are the twin-rated tow hooks at the front and rear for varied recovery options, as well as balance straps for snatch recoveries in deep sand or thick mud.
Further, the updated Terrain Management System comes with 7 drive modes i.e. Normal, Sport, Slippery, Rock Crawl, Sand, Mud/Ruts, and Baja. The drive modes adjust engine, transmission, ABS sensitivity and calibration, traction and stability controls, steering, throttle response according to the selection. The instrument cluster and centre touchscreen display will likewise change in accordance to the selected drive mode. Baja mode is probably the most exciting of the lot, with its anti-lag system that enables you to resume acceleration faster out of the corners or in between gears as it keeps the turbochargers spinning for up to 3 seconds after you back off the throttle. This diesel variant however, is missing the active valve exhaust system.
Looks-wise, it has the same exterior styling with the F-O-R-D lettering dominating the grille, the C-clamp LED DRLs, LED matrix headlamps and flared wheel arches, and 17″ alloy wheels with BFGoodrich KO2 tyres. Also included are Ford Performance scuff plates, and new cast aluminium sidesteps.
Within the cabin are jet-fighter-inspired sports seats wrapped in leather, coast-to-coast Code Orange accented instrument panel, cast magnesium paddle shifters and a steering wheel wrapped in premium grade leather. Also standard are the 12.4″ digital instrument cluster, 12″ central touchscreen with Ford SYNC 4A infotainment system, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity, 8-speaker Bang & Olufsen sound system, 4 USB ports, wireless charging pad, 360-degree camera system, and a 12 V power socket.
The diesel Ranger Raptor also features the same active safety as its V6 petrol sibling. Features include Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop-and-Go and Lane Centring, Blind Spot Information System, High Beam Assist, Reverse Brake Assist, Evasive Steer Assist, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Emergency Stop Signal, and 7 airbags.
“As Asia Pacific’s only factory-built performance truck for performance off-roading, demand for the Ranger Raptor has exceeded expectations. Response to the Next-Generation Ranger Raptor has been great since we launched the V6 variant. Based on feedback received, we know many Malaysian customers want a choice of engines and the 2.0L Bi-turbo diesel is a great addition to our line-up,” said Turse Zuhair, Managing Director of Sime Darby Auto ConneXion-Ford, the sole distributor for Ford in Malaysia.
The Ford Ranger Raptor 2.0 Bi-turbo diesel is available in Code Orange, Absolute Black, Arctic White, Blue Lightning and Conquer Grey. It has a retail price of RM248,888 in Peninsular Malaysia and RM252,188 in Sabah & Sarawak (on the road without insurance for private registration).
The Ranger Raptor is covered by a 5-year manufacturer’s warranty (or 160,000 km whichever comes first), but you can also opt to stretch coverage to 7-years with the PremiumCare extended warranty package.
Furthermore, the first 300 in Malaysia to place an order for the Ranger Raptor 2.0L Bi-turbo diesel will receive the following early bird specials:
