Scania Southeast Asia Showcases Its Battery Electric Truck
As part of its ongoing initiative to help customers meet their ESG (Environment, Social & Governance) objectives, Scania Southeast Asia recently gave them a rundown of the capabilities and potential of its battery electric trucks.
At the preview was an electrified Scania L-series, which has a low entry cab designed specifically for urban use and narrow roads, with its maximised field of view. The electric L-series is destined for Singapore for use in the waste management sector in the city state since it has no noise and no direct emissions.
Besides the low cab version, Scania’s portfolio of electric trucks also encompasses other cab options in its P-, G-, R-, and S-series, for other transport applications. Available both as a rigid truck and as a trailer tractor, Scania is offering a brand new driveline, with improved batteries and faster and more powerful charging capabilities. Further, the new triple electric machine powertrain also provides ample electromechanical power take-off (PTO) to ensure smooth and reliable operation of temperature-controlled transports or power-hungry applications such as hook lifts. At 40 tonnes of load, the truck is good for up to 350 km range, and 250 km at 64 tonnes of max gross tonnage weight (GTW).
To further optimise fit within the strengthened truck chassis, the battery packs are now assembled in-house at Scania. The charging interface is also repositioned on the right-hand side, behind the driver’s door. Closely connected is the completely reworked heating and cooling system, keeping powertrain and battery components at their optimal operating temperature, and allowing for precise control of the cabin climate through Scania’s digital platform. The aerodynamics of the cab has also been further improved with wind deflector extensions to ensure every watt from the battery provides the maximum distance.
“Our customers’ environmental and social impacts can be measured and managed through their ESG program. Scania has a wide range of products and services to address our customers’ ESG objectives.
