Inokom To Assemble Chery Vehicles

At the Malaysia Autoshow 2023, Chery Automobile Co., Ltd had formalised with Inokom Corporation, a subsidiary of Sime Darby Berhad, a partnership to assemble Chery vehicles in Malaysia.

The local assembly of Chery vehicles is expected to start in the 3rd quarter of 2023 and will be done in Inokom’s assembly facility in Kulim, Kedah. Chery Malaysia Country Director Mr Leo Chen said the partnership with Sime Darby will strengthen its presence in emerging markets within Southeast Asia, a region that has encouraging potential growth. “We are very excited to be partnering with Inokom. With nearly 3 decades of experience in assembling vehicles of many world-renowned brands, Inokom is an ideal partner for Chery in our mission to take root in Malaysia and provide Malaysian consumers with high-technology and high-quality vehicles that are ahead of the curve in terms of design,” said Mr Chen. Chery Corporate Malaysia Sdn Bhd, a local subsidiary wholly-owned by Wuhu Purui Automobile Investment Co., Ltd, a subsidiary of Chery Automobile, will be the Approved Permit (AP) Franchise Holder to undertake the local assembly of Chery vehicles in Malaysia for the domestic and export markets.

“As we have done successfully in many other markets, Chery is determined to localise its operations in Malaysia as far as possible. We believe this will bring us closer to Malaysian consumers to fully understand their needs and wants, not to mention contribute economically to the nation through technology transfer as well as the creation of jobs and strategic opportunities,” he continued. “We are also accelerating all other aspects of our localisation strategy, including recruiting top Malaysian talents in areas such as product, sales, after-sales, branding and marketing, and of course through our dealership network – we target to launch with no fewer than 30 dealers covering all major cities nationwide”.

On Sime Darby’s end, the Inokom assembly plant will be expanded to cater for Chery’s local assembly activities.

“We are proud to announce our collaboration with Chery, and to join Chery’s global family of partners. To be entrusted to assemble cars for Chery speaks volumes of the highly qualified and competent Malaysian talent we have at Sime Darby and our ability to provide meaningful value to our partners. We look forward to being part of Chery’s journey of continuous innovation,” said Sime Darby Berhad Group Chief Executive Officer Dato’ Jeffri Salim Davidson.

“The assembly portfolio is a key element in our growth strategy for Sime Darby Motors and this partnership supports this,” he added.Chery_Tiggo 8 Pro_Interior_Cabin
