Perodua Sells Over 222,000 Vehicles In 10 Months

Perodua has already surpassed the 200,000 sales mark for 2022, as the company registered a turnover of 222,203 vehicles in the past 10 months. On a year-to-date comparison, the registration of Perodua cars increased 51.2%, up from 146,951 vehicles for the same Jan – Oct period in 2021. However, the 2021 performance was mainly affected by business disruptions due to the various lockdowns.

But on a month-to-month comparison, October 2022 showed a 5% improvement over September i.e. 25,849 vehicles vs 24,626 vehicles. The most popular Perodua models sold in October are the Bezza (6,768 units), the Myvi (6,130) and the Axia (4,989).Perodua_Axia_Style

“There was a gap in sales between June and August last year due to the lockdown imposed by the government to contain COVID-19 cases. Moving forward, we expect the registration momentum to continue upwards until the end of the year,” said Perodua President and Chief Executive Officer, Dato’ Sri Zainal Abidin Ahmad. Perodua confirmed that it will maintain its initial annual sales projection of 247,800 vehicles for 2022, which looks like an achievable figure as it should be able to deliver 13,000 cars for each of the remaining months of the year. However, some buyers might prefer to have their vehicle delivered in 2023 instead.

Its increased production rate also indicates that the company would be able to meet, or even surpass, its sales target. In October, Perodua manufactured 22,974 vehicles, bringing the 10-month total to 229,811 vehicles.

He added that the higher than expected production and sales performance has impacted the local automotive ecosystem positively, given that on average 95% of Perodua parts are sourced locally. “In fact, the high localisation rate has also help shield Perodua from the volatility in the foreign exchange market at the moment. It is our intention to further improve the local automotive supply chain as having such an industry have proven a benefit to both Perodua and consumers,” he added.
