Supply Chain Improvement For Perodua Results In Higher Q3 Sales

In the 3rd quarter of 2022, Perodua recorded higher sales as its supply chain constraints continue to improve. 3Q22 saw its sales go up by 5% to 69,011 vehicles. In comparison, it sold 65,719 vehicles in the 2nd quarter.

On a quarter-to-quarter comparison, vehicle registration had increased by 216.5% as the same period in 2021 saw a lockdown imposed between June and mid-August which stalled nearly all economic activities. Between July and September 2021, Perodua sold just 21,803 units.

Perodua Myvi_Front Right_1.5 AV“The increase in registration in this quarter (3Q22), shows that most of the major issues within the automotive supply chain has normalised. It is now time to further improve on production as we need to reduce the waiting period for our valued customers,” Perodua President and Chief Executive Officer Dato’ Sri Zainal Abidin Ahmad said.

On a year-to-date comparison (Jan – Sep 2022), Perodua also saw a significant rise in sales by 64.9%, to 196,354 vehicles. The same period in 2021 saw 119,093 vehicles sold. For a month-on-month comparison, registration of Perodua vehicles cooled down slightly by 5.43% to 24,626 vehicles in September, from the 26,039 units in August 2022. The company said that this is part of its vehicle registration maximisation plan in the 4th quarter of this year.

As of 30 June 2022, the company received over 200,000 orders from buyers taking advantage of the sales tax exemption on new cars.

Production-wise, the month of September was Perodua’s highest production month so far this year. It managed to churn out 29,077 vehicles due to the improvement in its supply chain. The company shared that its year-to-date (Jan – Sep 2022) production figure is 206,837 vehicles.
