2022 Proton X70 Gets New Engine Option And Updated Features
PROTON has launched the 2022 Proton X70 refreshed with a new engine option as well as updated features. This C-segment SUV now offers variants with a 1.5L TGDi turbocharged direct injection engine as a compact alternative, while the current 1.8L TGDi engine remains in one of the Premium variants.
Development of the 1.5L TGDi engine took 5 years and involved over 100 experts. This Geely group engine has recorded over 12 million kilometres of testing in extreme conditions and climates. It has also been used in over 750,000 vehicles on the road globally and is available in 22 countries of varying climate and traffic conditions.
With higher efficiency per cylinder and a more compact engine packaging, chosen to suit the contemporary millennial driver, the 1.5L TGDi engine achieves a maximum power output of 177 PS and 255 Nm of torque, hitting its peak earlier at 1,500 rpm. In comparison to the 1.8L TGDi engine, there is a 7% reduction in fuel consumption on the urban cycle. The 1.5L TGDi engines are built in Tanjung Malim, at a new production line that meets the strict quality standards required for one of the most advanced locally assembled engines in Malaysia.

Further, you have the option to select the AWD variant, equipped with real-time intelligent All-Wheel Drive system, which automatically transfers torque to rear wheels based on demand, thus improving handling according to challenging road conditions.

The 2022 Proton X70 comes with enhanced features for the driver and passengers’ comfort as well as a refreshed look. This includes the quartz black finishing on the front and rear bumpers, new 19″ alloy wheels, powered tailgate with foot sensor, Nappa leather seats and new black headlining. For additional comfort and peace of mind, the 2022 Proton X70 comes with the Proton Intelligent Air Purification System (P-IAPS), a combination of N95 cabin filter (incorporated into the air-conditioning) and air purifier system to improve the air quality inside the cabin.
Additionally, the PROTON Link app allows you to monitor vehicle status and to remotely control specific vehicle functions. The “Hi PROTON” voice command is available for you to operate the windows and air conditioning, and also access online navigation. For added enjoyment and convenience, there are 9 speakers with power amplifier and subwoofer to enhance the music experience. You will also have 6 USB ports to charge your devices.
Safety is also prioritised in the 2022 Proton X70, which was awarded the 5-star ASEAN NCAP rating, supported by a comprehensive list of safety features such as 6 SRS airbags, Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS), Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS), and 360° camera with 3D display for hassle-free parking.
Exterior colour options for the 2022 Proton X70 are Snow White, Armour Silver, Jet Grey, Ruby Red, Cinnamon Brown and Space Grey, offered in accordance with the variant chosen.
