New Volvo Recharge T8 Models With Better Performance Will Be In Malaysia Soon
Volvo Car Malaysia will soon be introducing new and improved Volvo Recharge T8 models. “Recharge” is Volvo’s designation for its electrified range of vehicles. The Recharge T8 models will feature a newly improved plug-in hybrid (PHEV) powertrain with improved electric performance and drivability.
Key features of the new Recharge plug-in powertrain include:
- A new longer range battery with capacity of 18.8 kWh (Kilowatt-hour)
- A new rear electric motor with output of 145 hp
- An increased EV driving range of up to 90 km
- An increased total power output of 462 hp
- Improved CO2 emissions
- One-Pedal Drive for the XC60 and S90 PHEV models
The new long-range battery pack has a 3rd layer of cells built in to increase its nominal energy from 11.6 kWh to 18.8 kWh. This powers the significantly more powerful new rear electric motor (increased from 88 hp to 145 hp), which bumps total output for this hybrid powertrain to 462 hp (from 407 hp). The larger battery will offer a longer electric driving range of between 70 – 90 km (improved from the previous 40 – 49 km range). Overall, these improvements will allow you to drive longer distances on pure electric mode which helps to lower carbon emissions.
“Our new line of PHEVs will transform the way our customers experience electric driving,” said Charles Frump, Managing Director of Volvo Car Malaysia. “The improved powertrain lets our customers drive sustainably at a longer distance, at the same time providing them with range confidence that fits the needs of their everyday lives.”
Based on the Scalable Product Architecture (SPA), the new powertrain will be featured in all of Volvo’s Recharge PHEV models, including the Volvo XC90, S90, XC60, S60 and V60 models. Furthermore, the XC60 and S90 PHEV models will also include the One-Pedal Drive setting. This allows you to enjoy a seamless and intuitive drive especially in stop-and-go traffic conditions. A standard feature in Volvo’s pure electric models, this function offers more effective battery regeneration as well as a higher regeneration rate that will effectively improve range efficiency.
Along with the new powertrain features, Volvo Car Malaysia will be adjusting the prices of all of its vehicles. The price adjustment will be effective from 1 May 2022 and will start with Volvo’s current model line-up of the XC40 T5, XC40 Recharge T5, XC60 B5, and XC90 B5. The new line-up of the 90 and 60 series will be carry new retail prices when they are rolled out. However, the prices for the current Recharge T8 models will remain until stocks are depleted.
