GoCar Malaysia To Boost Electric Vehicle Usage With GoEV Programme

GoCar_GoEV_Charging Point_ParkingOn-demand mobility platform, GoCar, has launched its GoEV programme in an effort to boost the use of electric vehicles (EV) in Malaysia. The pilot phase by Malaysia’s leading on-demand mobility-as-a-service platform will first start in the Klang Valley with a fleet of 25 Nissan Leaf on a sharing or subscription basis. It is considering enhancing its fleet with other EV models as well but it will be just the Leaf at this point in time.

The GoEV programme is open to all aged 18 years old and above, with a valid driver’s license. You will only need to sign up as a GoCar member and select your preferred GoEV Share or GoEV Subs plans to use one of the cars.

There are currently 3 EV car sharing zones up and running at strategic locations for easy public access i.e. the GoCar Malaysia Petaling Jaya hub, MyTown Cheras and Avenue K in KL city centre. GoCar is targeting to set up a total of 10 GoEV zones by the end of this year.

GoCar_CEO_WongHoeMun_GoEV“Global warming is at the tipping point and the negative effects of climate change will continue to perpetuate for decades. As a top contributor to greenhouse gases emissions, the transport sector must transition to full electrification, which studies have shown significantly reduces the amount of carbon dioxide released into the atmosphere,” said Wong Hoe Mun, CEO of GoCar Malaysia.

“Malaysia still has a long way to go to catch up on EV adoption and infrastructure. However, we believe that through car sharing and subscription, we can help encourage mass adoption. We are so excited to be bringing affordable EV access to the general public. This way, everyone and not just the privileged few can experience the EV lifestyle,” he added.

The GoEV sharing option is currently available only for round-trips i.e. pick-up and return at the same zone, as well as for short-term use i.e. by the hour or by the day. Rates for the Leaf start from RM24.90 per hour or RM249 per day.

GoCar_Mobile App_EVIn conjunction with the launch of GoEV, GoCar is offering a 25% discount on all GoEV Share round-trips for bookings done before 31 January 2022. You will need to key in the promo code: “TRYGOEV”.

Should you want a longer duration to experience what it is like to live with an EV, you can opt for a 36-month subscription at RM2,299 per month. The rate is inclusive of road tax, insurance, regular servicing and a wall box home charger.

With EV comes the potential of range anxiety. So to ease any potential anxiety for its car sharing customers, GoCar is also providing complimentary ChargEV cards in each vehicle. This will give you access to almost 300 charging stations nationwide. Charging stations at the GoEV zones are free to use for all GoEV customers.

Please refer to the following table for a list of applicable rates and plans for GoEV. Naturally, the longer the booking period, the more affordable the rate will be.GoEV_Rates_Car Sharing_Subscription

To book a GoEV Nissan Leaf, you will need to sign up for an account via the GoCar mobile app and provide the necessary information and documentation. Once you are a member, you are free to check for vehicle availability and place your booking on either a sharing or subscription basis depending on your need. The car will be yours to unlock once you have made the necessary bookings and payment. No pre-booking is needed although there will be a refundable security deposit for the subscription plan.

As with any shared resources, it is strongly encouraged that you practice good sharing etiquette such as ensuring that the charging cable is plugged in upon returning it so that it is sufficiently charged for the next user, and that the car is clean.GoEV_Booking A Car
