Zaquin Resources Uses Scania XT Rigid To Complement Its Smart Waste Management Business

Zaquin Resources Sdn Bhd, a Smart Waste Management company, has received its first unit of Scania XT rigid truck. Based in Johor, Zaquin is the first waste management company to implement a semi-underground bin with smart IOT (internet of things) sensor system in Malaysia.

It hopes that the partnership with Scania will revolutionise the waste collection business in Malaysia. The choice of fronting the waste management business with a Scania XT rigid is meant to help build a strong and clear image that Zaquin is committed to really care for the environment and help reduce the cost of waste management through the concept of ‘Pay As You Throw’ (PAYT) i.e. the less you throw, the less you pay.

All contracted local waste collection companies are paid by local authorities a certain fixed cost per household for the collection of waste. Zaquin is proposing to change this tradition by only receiving payment for collected waste and with the Smart Deep Collection system, the customers will only pay for waste that is collected. “The waste can be weighed easily to provide accurate data for studies, audits or data calls. With Zaquin Smart Deep Collection System, we will be able to monitor the waste that has been collected and will be disposed of at the gazetted landfills by local authorities,” said Ahmad Tarmimi Tahang, Managing Director of Zaquin.

The XT rigid is fitted with the latest Swedish-made loaded crane and a locally built compactor. Though it’s the first to implement this innovative waste system in Malaysia, this waste collection system has been in use in Europe for over 30 years. This system employs special large containers of different sizes meant for different types of waste. The container’s user lids and surrounding stay clean as waste is lifted out using the crane fitted on the Scania XT rigid, and placed into the compactor for disposal. A portion (about 60%) of the containers are buried underground and enables it to be located beside shrubs, curbs, sidewalks, in narrow alleyways, and even behind fences because the main bins are never moved.

Furthermore, the collection truck does not have to approach the containers from a specific direction, and thus allows for flexible site placement. The crane can also do its job even if there are cars blocking the Scania XT rigid from nearing the bins. The rear axle provides easy manoeuvrability for the truck to access narrow roads and alleyways to get to the waste bins.

In recent years, the waste management industry has been moving towards resource management. The reclamation of raw materials and valuable scrap from waste products is becoming increasingly important. Zaquin goes one step further to pursue the concept of “Zero Waste” i.e. by recycling an ever-higher percentage of waste, and aiming to create an almost infinite cycle that will lead to absolutely no waste material left over at all.

Zaquin is also offering customers individual recycling solutions with the latest collection, sorting and processing methods so that they can optimise both the corporate and communal aspects of waste removal. Zaquin’s innovative methods in changing waste management to a more cost effective and environmentally friendly way will be good for the communities.

It boasts of better fuel efficiency and lower CO2 emissions as it is equipped with an advanced powertrain and aerodynamic solutions that provide up to 3% improvement in fuel economy.

Additionally, the XT’s cabin is one-of-a-kind with adjustable seating that is close to the door, ergonomic instrument panels and a large windscreen to minimise blind spots for enhanced safety. The extended view makes it easier for the drivers to operate in a comfortable and safe environment especially in residential areas.

Moreover, the customised flexible financial solutions by Scania Credit Malaysia helps customers with making costs more predictable over the truck’s lifecycle. Scania also assists in ensuring maximum uptime which helps with the sustainability of the truck as well as the customers’ business. Zaquin is presently working out a plan to subscribe to the Fleet Management System Control 10 and sign on to the Scania Ecolution partnership to save more fuel, enabling the reduction of carbon dioxide emissions as well as running costs.

Scania’s collaboration with Zaquin will ensure a parallel progression in sustainability for both companies. “Driving the future together with Scania in a Sustainable Partnership will drive real change and together as a team tied by strong values will strengthen our commitment to a better tomorrow. A partner, a problem solver and a trusted advisor is what Zaquin gets when they become a Scania customer,” stated Heba El Tarifi, Managing Director of Scania Southeast Asia.
