Mercedes-Benz Malaysia Expands Portfolio Of Locally Assembled Models With A-Class Sedan And GLA

Mercedes-Benz Malaysia (MBM) has introduced the locally assembled A-Class sedan and GLA SUV. Both of these body types each come with 2 variants i.e. A 200 Progressive Line, A 250 AMG Line, GLA 200 Progressive Line and GLA 250 AMG Line. The expansion of its portfolio of locally assembled cars is one of its strategies in strengthening its presence in Malaysia and its commitment to the local automotive sector.

Mercedes-Benz GLA_Michael Jopp“These two new additions to our local production line are testament of our commitment to further expand our local foothold and increased investment in the local automotive sector. Both the A-Class and GLA are our success and best-selling models and we are excited to announce that they will now be locally assembled at Pekan, Pahang. We believe that this expansion will continue to strengthen our local offerings as we strive to provide our customers the very best of premium and luxury German engineering,” said Michael Jopp, VP of Sales and Marketing, Passenger Cars at Mercedes-Benz Malaysia.

Mercedes-Benz A-Class Sedan

The A 200 Progressive Line and A 250 AMG Line sedans are priced at RM219,888* and RM249,888* respectively. The sedan offers greater utility, with above-average shoulder, elbow and headroom, as well as easy access to the rear; rear headroom is top of its segment at 944 mm. While cargo space is a practical 420 litres. The boot opening is also larger (width of 950 mm) for easier loading and unloading.

Mercedes-Benz A 250_Cockpit_Steering_DisplayThe interior space of the A-Class sedan takes advantage of Mercedes-Benz’s new approach in providing a more spacious feeling in a compact car. The unique interior architecture is shaped in particular by the avant-garde design of the dashboard which goes without the traditional cowl over the instrument cluster. As a result, the wing-shaped main body of the dashboard extends from one front door to the other with no visual discontinuity.

Both these compact sedans use different engines, with the A 200 Progressive Line using an efficient 1.33L turbo engine with 163 hp, and the A250 AMG Line a 2.0L turbo with 224 hp. The A 200 has peak torque of 250 Nm @ 1,620 – 4,000 rpm and can do 0 – 100 km/h in 8.1 seconds. Meanwhile, the more powerful A 250 has 350 Nm @ 1,800 – 4,000 rpm and does 0 – 100 km/h in 6.3 seconds. Both cars run power through a 7G-DCT dual clutch gearbox. Both cars ride on 18″ wheels with design based on the respective trim.Mercedes-Benz A 250 AMG Line_Grille_Headlights

The A-Class sedans are available in Polar White, Cosmos Black, Mountain Grey, Iridium Silver and Denim Blue featuring a carbon fibre-look trim for the A 200 Progressive Line and a light linear-grain aluminium trim for the A 250 AMG Line.

Mercedes-Benz GLA

The GLA 200 Progressive Line and GLA 250 AMG Line have a retail price of RM242,888 and RM278,888 respectively. The GLA run the same engines as the sedan variants, with the main difference being the use of an 8-speed dual clutch for the GLA 250 instead of the 7G-DCT, as well as the slower 0 – 100 km/h sprint times of 8.7 seconds and 6.9 seconds respectively.Mercedes-Benz GLA 250 AMG Line

Both SUVs feature powerful overall proportions with short overhangs front and rear. The front section flows over the A-pillar into the visually compact greenhouse. The suggested power domes on the bonnet, along with the clear contours with reduced lines and accentuated planes, convey sportiness and modernity.

Mercedes-Benz GLA 200_Front SeatsThe GLA offers a spacious interior particularly the rear legroom and luggage compartment. The rear seat backrest can be split 40:20:40, with each section folding down independently, to offer flexible cargo storage. Furthermore, the load floor is height-adjustable to offer variability. By folding down the rear seat backrests and placing the load floor is in the upper position, you can get an almost flat cargo area extending right to the front seats. Additionally, the seating position for both the driver and the front passenger is higher and more upright than its predecessor model, and thus more typical of an SUV.

The GLA 200 Progressive Line is fitted with 18″ 5-twin-spoke alloy wheels and attached to comfort suspension, while the GLA 250 AMG Line has 19″ AMG 5-twin-spoke alloy wheels on lowered comfort suspension.
