Mitsubishi Motors Malaysia Hits Historical Sales High For Triton As It Clears Order Backlog

As industries start resuming activities after the tight restrictions of the June 2021 lockdown, Mitsubishi Motors Malaysia (MMM) is enjoying the reopening of the automotive industry. In clearing the backlog of accumulated orders, MMM hit a historical sales high for the Mitsubishi Triton in September 2021. Last month, it delivered record 1,521 units of the Triton which corresponds to a 34% market share of the local pick-up segment, another high for the brand. This result keeps Mitsubishi Motors in the top three of non-national automotive brands in Malaysia.

Overall sales for the company during this period was also in the positive with a total of 6,907 vehicles sold. This resulted in the company’s market share increasing from 1.7% (April- September 2020) to 3.9% (April-September 2021) of Total Industry Volume (TIV).

At the same time, the Mitsubishi XPANDER is now Malaysia’s best-selling non-national MPV. MMM has received close to 13,000 bookings since the launch in November 2020. Thus far, the company has delivered 5,756 units of its locally assembled MPV to the new owners.

Mitsubishi XPANDER_Outdoors“After a few months of challenging market situation due to the COVID-19 pandemic and lockdowns, the team at Mitsubishi Motors is working with our best efforts to improve production, delivery timing, and to recover from backlog orders fulfilment for the XPANDER and Triton. We would also like to thank our customers who have shown us support and have been patient with us. As the nation moves towards the endemic era and with the resumption of the automotive supply chain and showrooms opening, we are confident for optimistic sales numbers over the second half of our Financial Year,” said Tomoyuki Shinnishi, Chief Executive Officer of MMM.

“In addition, we are continuously looking to improve and introduce new digital services. Soon we will be announcing a Home Delivery Service for customers who have purchased a Mitsubishi to have their brand new car delivered to their doorstep. This is to ease customer’s convenience in shopping online. We are also working very closely with our dealerships to ensure full SOPs are in compliance and only fully vaccinated staff are allowed to be on duty and serve customers,” he added.

* MMM’s Financial Year calendar is April 2021 – March 2022
