UMW Toyota Motor To Offer Promotions To Boost Sales
UMW Toyota Motor (UMWT) is expected to offer promotions on its range of cars in an effort to boost sales and end 2021 on a good note. The past 8 months of the year has no doubt been challenging, with disruption to sales and production. The closure of retail outlets nationwide had an impact on the business, particularly in terms of new vehicle bookings and sales during the months of June, July and part of August. But with business activities in the country resuming, UMWT is looking forward to a path to normalcy.
“It has certainly been challenging for us, but we understand the necessity of the actions taken by the Government to fight the COVID-19 pandemic. On our part, we have made sure that our workforce has been vaccinated so that we can safely resume and continue our activities at our facilities around the country,” said President of UMW Toyota Motor, Ravindran. K.
“We will be having sales promotions in the coming months so if you are shopping for a new vehicle, look out for them as you will get great deals and of course, save on sales tax until the end of the year,” he said. “Our loyal customers are also not forgotten and we will soon announce a new program that will reward them for their loyalty to the brand over more than five decades.”
Mr. Ravindran also shared that the total sales volume of new Toyota and Lexus vehicles in August 2021 was 2,524 units. This is a 56% reduction compared to the same period in 2020. However, total combined sales (Toyota and Lexus) for the first 8 months of the year showed a year-on-year increase. For Jan – Aug 2021, the combined total was 38,085 vehicles, while it was 31,734 vehicles for the same period in 2020. This is mainly due to the continued strong sales momentum that started last year encouraged by the exemption of SST (Sales & Service Tax) until 31 December 2021.
For the month of September 2021, you can enjoy instalment for the Toyota Yaris from as low as RM493 a month with the EZ Beli plan. If you choose to buy a Toyota RAV4, you can get a cash rebate of up to RM10,000. All models have exemption on sales tax until the end of 2021, which gives you savings of up to RM17,391 for the popular Toyota Alphard MPV (as an example).
Mr. Ravindran also gave the assurance that all sales and service outlets will follow the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) specified by the Health Ministry. Customers and visitors will be required to have temperature scans and register their visit with the MySejahtera app, as well as use hand sanitizers and face masks at all times. Likewise, the employees at all facilities are to follow the SOPs for the protection and safety of all.
Additionally, UMWT has resumed production activities at its 2 assembly plants in Selangor. While there is a small backlog of orders to meet due to the shutdown, UMWT expects to deliver the new vehicles to their customers within a reasonable timeframe.
“We thank our loyal customers for their patience, support and understanding. It is a challenging time for everyone and we have been doing our best to assist customers by maintaining communication channels for them to use if they have a problem with their Toyota or Lexus vehicle. Now that activities can resume, we hope they will ensure that their vehicles continue to have maintenance service carried out,” said Akio Takeyama, Deputy Chairman of UMW Toyota Motor.
