First Images Of New Maserati Grecale Prototype Released
A series of images of the new Maserati Grecale prototype SUV have been released to the public. These photographs, taken outside the historic Maserati plant on Viale Ciro Menotti in Modena, Italy were shared by Maserati employees on social networks.
The Maserati Grecale is scheduled for a global premiere at the end of 2021 and will be a 2022 model. The prototype cars are currently undergoing a period of intensive road, circuit and off-road tests, in various conditions of use, to acquire vital data for the preparation of the new SUV’s final setup.
The Grecale SUV will slot in under the larger Maserati Levante, and likely based on the FCA Giorgio platform that is shared with the similarly sized Alfa Romeo Stelvio compact crossover, and Giulia sedan. For speculation, the Stelvio comes with a choice of 2.0L inline-4 MultiAir turbo petrol engine in various tunes, a 2.2L inline-4 Multijet II turbo diesel, and a more extreme 2.9L V6 twin turbo petrol engine based on Ferrari’s engine for the Stelvio Quadrifoglio. Power output ranges from 148 hp for the base diesel Stelvio, to 197 hp for the base petrol, to 513 hp for the V6 racing edition. The gearbox will possibly be an 8-speed automatic.
We could also expect a hybrid version, given the current trend for electrification. The 2021 Maserati Ghibli has a hybrid option available – a 48V mild hybrid powered by a 2.0L turbocharged engine paired with an electric supercharger.
The Maserati Grecale will be built at Cassino, Italy, where an investment of about 800 million Euros is planned.
