Locally Assembled Mitsubishi XPANDER Now Open For Booking

Mitsubishi Motors Malaysia is opening the order books for its Mitsubishi XPANDER. This seven-seater crossover / MPV is locally assembled in Pekan and is scheduled to be launched in November 2020.

The Malaysia version differs slightly from the one in Indonesia and other regional markets. We are getting the facelifted version which has a redesigned front grille, LED headlights, ‘crystal block’ LED position lamps and L-shaped LED tail lights, as well as new 16″ dual tone alloy wheel design.

Mitsubishi Motors claims the XPANDER has best-in-class cabin space. On a 2,775 mm wheelbase is a 4,475 mm (l) x 1,750 mm (w) x 1,730 mm (h) body that is said to offer more legroom, headroom and shoulder room for its passengers. Further, its 205 mm ground clearance should be sufficient to tackle Malaysia’s roads.

The XPANDER is also the only one in its class with flat-folding second and third row seats to maximise the cargo area for long or bulky items. Both the rear rows have backrests that recline, and the second row has an easy one-touch tumble fold mechanism. Extra storage options include a cargo floor box with lid, under-seat storage, glove box with double compartment, and centre console box. There are also various compartments in the cabin, with enough space to ensure you will never be short of water bottles.

For passenger comfort, there is a four-vent blower mounted on the roof for better air distribution. Power for gadgets can be obtained from two USB ports in the front, and a 12V port each in the centre console, tunnel storage and third row seat. Additionally, to improve cabin noise insulation, the XPANDER is fitted with an acoustic windshield, thicker front windows and an insulated roof.

For entertainment, there is the 9″ touchscreen audio system with wired Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity.

This is paired with a four-speed automatic and tuned for power and fuel economy. The driver also gets a tilt & telescoping steering for a more comfortable driving position.

Safety-wise, it is equipped with Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD), Active Stability Control (ASC), Brake Assist (BA), Hill Start Assist (HSA), Brake Override System (BOS), Rest Reminder and cruise control.

MMM has also introduced enhancements to the XPANDER via its authorised dealer package. This includes features such as a four-camera All Round Monitor (ARM), a front driving video recorder, and black leather seats with quilted pattern. These accessories have been tested and verified by MMM to be in compliance with local regulations.

“The XPANDER is a significant model for MMM and we are optimistic that it will be a favourite among many Malaysians for its design is more than just aesthetics. Today, we are pleased to review the full specs of the new XPANDER to all. We understood that Malaysians now want a car that matched their aspiration for a more active lifestyle and practicality and as such, the XPANDER is customised to meet Malaysians’ preferences,” said Tomoyuki Shinnishi, Chief Executive Officer of Mitsubishi Motors Malaysia.

“At Mitsubishi Motors, we want to offer a more price competitive model with better specifications, hence the move to local assembly,” he added.

MMM will currently offer only one variant of the Mitsubishi XPANDER, spec’d out for Malaysian preferences. Exterior colour choices are Red Metallic, Quartz White Pearl, Diamond Black Mica, and Titanium Gray Metallic.
