PROTON Starts 2020 On A Strong Note

The positive momentum of PROTON’s 2019 sales performance continues into the first month of 2020 as the company continues on a strong note. In January 2020, PROTON recorded a total of 8,506 new registrations, representing a year-on-year increase of 20.2%. This is also PROTON’s best January sales achievement in four years. By virtue of this, its market share grew by 4.9% over the same corresponding period to approximately 19.5%.

Dr Li Chunrong_CEO_PROTON_MalaysiaDespite being a short month due to the Chinese New Year holidays, PROTON has performed within expectations to maintain its No. 2 position in January. “This is a great start to the year on the back of our performance in 2019. January is always a tough month but we still managed to have our best showing in 4 years”, said PROTON CEO, Dr. Li Chunrong.

Proton 1 Tank Adventure_Proton SagaThe Proton Saga is the main contributor to PROTON’s January sales, with 3,871 new cars sold. This is nearly half of the company’s total sales for the month and represents a 72% year-on-year increase for the model. The Proton X70 SUV continues to hold station as the segment leader with a total of 1,367 units being registered.

Making up the balance are the Persona, Iriz and Exora, all of which also performed well, as expected, over the previous year, as these models received updates in 2019. The Persona nearly doubled in sales when compared with January 2018, with 2,109 vehicles delivered to customers. This represents an 84% year-on-year increase. Simulataneously, the Iriz grew nearly five-fold, with 785 units sold; an increase of 465%.

“Clearly our customers see the value in our much improved product line. This is especially for the Saga, Persona, Iriz and Exora which were all launched last year. We believe that our strong emphasis on technology, safety and quality is what is driving sales” said Li. “However, we will not rest on our laurels and will continue to push the envelope on raising standards both in quality and service”, he added.
