Honda Malaysia Recalls 9,998 Units of Honda Accord 2.0 from 2003 – 2007
Petaling Jaya, 25 April 2019 – If you own a Honda Accord 2.0 from 2003 – 2007 (Year Model), then Honda Malaysia wants you to bring it in ASAP for a second replacement of the Takata driver front airbag inflator as a preventive measure. This recall will affect 9,998 units of the Accord 2.0, which was one of the models affected in the previous recall exercise. And if you are one of the nearly 10,000 owners, then please get in touch with Honda soon.
Honda Malaysia is apologising for the inconvenience caused to customers again, but the company has an obligation to put customer safety as top priority. This second recall for the Accord 2.0 is necessary as a precautionary measure and Honda urges all affected customers to replace the defective driver front airbag inflator as soon as possible. This is because the airbag may deploy with excessive internal pressure when activated and the defective airbag inflator casing might rupture and possibly result in injury or death.
The second replacement of the defective Takata driver front airbag inflator will come at no cost to the customer as Honda will absorb the replacement cost. Honda Malaysia would like to emphasise that all its current selling models are not affected and they will continue to prioritise customer safety and uphold transparency.
Honda reported that there are no reported crashes or injuries related to the Takata driver front airbag inflator in the Accord (2.0L) 2003 – 2007 Year Model in Malaysia thus far. But it is always better to be safe than sorry.
Affected customers will receive notification letters from Honda Malaysia with the details of this product recall and stock availability. Honda Malaysia strongly encourages customers who receive these letters to send their vehicles to any of the 95 Honda authorised dealers for inspection and replacement.
The second replacement airbag inflator stock for these 9,998 units of Accord 2.0 2003 – 2007 Year Model will be available in stages and Honda Malaysia is doing its utmost best to ensure 100% stock availability in the shortest period of time.
As of 21 April 2019, Honda Malaysia has replaced more than 243,720 units of Takata driver front airbag inflators, which translates to a 92% completion rate. The total number of Takata driver and passenger front airbag inflator replacements completed is more than 527,480 units or 89% completion.
Honda Malaysia is appealing to all affected Honda customers who have not come forward to replace the front airbag inflators to do so immediately as this involves human lives.
