PROTON Extends Its Lubricant Partnership with PETRONAS for Ten Years

Kuala Lumpur, 9 April 2019 – PROTON has extended its lubricant partnership with PETRONAS Lubricants Marketing Malaysia Sdn Bhd (PLMM), a subsidiary of the national oil company, PETRONAS Dagangan Berhad (PDB) and PETRONAS Lubricants International (PLI) for a period of ten years to develop, supply and deliver lubricant products and functional fluids to the Malaysian automaker.

PETRONAS PROTON JV6 - Dato' Sri Syed Zainal AbidinThis partnership will mean that PLI and PLMM will continue to supply a range of quality products for PROTON’s factory fill and aftersales service, with key product being the PETRONAS Syntium SE range.

“PETRONAS has been the official fluid solution provider to PROTON since 1989. We are delighted to take the partnership further as this is a clear testimony of PROTON’s trust and confidence in our products and services,” said Dato’ Sri Syed Zainal Abidin, MD / CEO of PDB and chairman of PLMM and PLI.

PETRONAS PROTON Signing Ceremony - 2019The Global Supply, Technology, Commercial and Collaboration Agreement was signed by Ruslan Islahudin as Regional Business Head APAC PLI and Lim Meng Jin, Chief Procurement Officer of PROTON. It was witnessed by Andrew Wong, Regional Head for OEM APAC, PLI and Yusri Yusof as Senior Director of Corporate Strategy, PROTON.

Meanwhile, the Local Supply and Commercial Collaboration Agreement was signed by Hardeep Singh, CEO of PLMM and Tuan Haji Hamizan Osman, Senior Director Procurement of PROTON, and witnessed by Gan Kher Yang, General Manager Sales B2C and Yusri Yusof.

Also present to witness the signing of the agreements were Dato’ Sri Syed Zainal Abidin, Giuseppe D’Arrigo, CEO of PLI, Dr Li Chunrong, CEO of PROTON and Dato Radzaif Mohamed, Deputy CEO.

“PROTON and PETRONAS have a long history of working together so it was only natural for us to extend our partnership. PROTON has a lot of exciting new models in the pipeline and we are eager to explore technical solutions developed together with PETRONAS that will benefit our customers,” said Dr Li Chunrong.

PETRONAS’ lubricants and functional fluids are developed based on the PETRONAS Fluid Technology Solutions integrated approach, which is at the core of its engineering work. The company leverages on the knowledge and insights gained from extensive research at its R&D facilities worldwide, including at the US$60 million Global Research and Technology Center in Villastellone in Turin, Italy, as well as the US$8 million Satellite Research and Technology Centre in Contagem, Minas Gerais, Brazil.
