Quick Action by PLUS Keeps Traffic Smooth After Billboard Collapse
Bangi, Tuesday, 09 April 2019 – A billboard placed outside of the PLUS Highway’s boundaries collapsed as a result of strong winds at 6.30 pm on Sunday and pieces of the structure were strewn over the expressway at Km 294.4 (Southbound).
Upon receiving an alert on the incident, the PLUS highway Patrol unit and its maintenance partner Propel rushed to the scene to immediately commence clearance work of the advertisement board fragments and parts of the superstructure. The affected lanes were temporarily closed for safety reasons to facilitate the clearance works for safety reasons, and these lanes were re-opened immediately after the works were completed.
PLUS is concerned about the presence of advertisement billboards that are placed outside of its boundaries as some of these may not be built with the proper safety measures and materials, and may pose a danger to PLUS highway users. PLUS will initiate further discussions with the Malaysian Highway Authority (MHA) and the local authorities to address the presence of advertisement boards outside of the PLUS highway boundary to ensure the safety of its highway customers.
At the same time, PLUS urges billboard and other media structure owners, including those that are erected outside of the highway boundary to conduct immediate inspection on the integrity of their advertisement structures to prevent such incidents form recurring in view of the current weather conditions.
