Proton X70 Owners To Drive Overland Route To Hangzhou, China
Nine Proton X70 owners will drive their SUVs to Hangzhou, China. Hangzhou is the most populous city in Zhejiang Province, and home to Proton’s joint venture partner, Geely. To get there, the group 33 will drive across four countries, visiting 13 cities in the process, taking 33 days to complete the journey.
This overland trip spans 13,000 km and is led by the Borneo Automobile Leisure Touring Team and the Kunming Scenery-Customer International Travel Co. China. It is also supported by Proton which has set up checkpoints along the route at dealer locations and service centres to welcome the participants.
The group was flagged off yesterday from the Proton Centre of Excellence in Shah Alam. Hangzhou will be the halfway point of the trip and this is where the participants will get a chance to visit the Geely Experience Centre and learn more about how Geely has transformed into one of the fastest growing automotive companies, as well as get a chance to view the company’s latest models.
For Proton, this trip presents an opportunity to showcase the Proton X70 to buyers in overseas markets, especially our ASEAN neighbours, which are key to future sales growth. It will also prove the SUV is capable of performing in a number of different environments and road conditions as it travels from Malaysia to China. Thus far, Proton has delivered over 5,500 units of the X70 since its launch in December 2018.
At the flag-off ceremony, Dato’ Radzaif Mohamed, Deputy Chief Executive Officer of Proton, said “While this is a private initiative, Proton is happy to offer its support as a sign of appreciation to its customers. The Proton X70 has been very well received by Malaysians and we hope that by showing regional car buyers its capabilities, we will be laying the groundwork for future export sales success.”
After completing their visit to Hangzhou, the 33 participants will make their way home to Malaysia via a different route, ending their epic journey at the Proton Centre of Excellence.
