New BMW X3 xDrive30i Launched In Malaysia; Estimated Price RM320k
BMW Group Malaysia has officially introduced the new generation BMW X3, which will be locally assembled, as the Group seeks to use Malaysia as the Southeast Asia hub to expand its presence in the region.
The new BMW X3 will be available in the xDrive30i Luxury trim, which sees more chrome used, and will have an estimated price tag of RM320,000 (on the road, before insurance). This Sports Activity Vehicle sits on a wheelbase that’s 5 cm longer than the previous but external dimensions remain relatively unchanged, with a long bonnet and short front overhang. BMW states that the X3 has the ideal 50:50 weight distribution for better looking proportions and driving dynamics.
The front end features the updated three dimensional kidney grille and LED headlights with cornering lights. It also has a high beam assistant which switches to the high beam automatically when required. The rear is capped off with three-dimensional LED tail lights, roof spoiler and twin tailpipes. The Comfort Access feature allows for contactless operation of the tailgate to access the 550 litres of cargo space (1,600 litres with the rear seats folded) for added convenience.
The underbody protection is a mix of Frozen Grey and high-gloss chrome. The new X3 is about 55 kg thanks to BMW’s lightweight construction to aid driving dynamics and efficiency. Additionally, coefficient of drag is 0.29 which is quite low for a utility vehicle.
Supplying the power to move the X3 is a 2.0L BMW TwinPower Turbo in-line four-cylinder petrol engine with TwinScroll turbocharging, High Precision Injection, Double-VANOS variable camshaft control and Valvetronic fully variable valve timing. The 252 hp and 350 Nm of torque from the engine is sent to the four wheels via the xDrive intelligent all-wheel-drive system and an 8-speed Steptronic Sport transmission. With that, the BMW X3 can do the 0 – 100km/h sprint in 6.3 seconds, with top speed limited to 240 km/h. The official average fuel consumption is 7.6 litres / 100 km. The BMW X3 runs on 19” Double Spoke bi-colour (Ferric Grey) light alloy wheels.
Drive management is taken care of by the Driving Experience Control switch that gives you four drive modes (ECO PRO, COMFORT, SPORT and SPORT+). This is complemented with Dynamic Stability Control, Hill Descent Control, cruise control with braking function and Performance Control which assists during cornering with engine control and brake intervention. Another notable assisting feature is Parking Assistant for automatic parallel or perpendicular parking.
The interior of the X3 sports a new premium BMW Sport leather steering wheel, a dashboard trimmed in SensaTec synthetic leather, dark oak fine-wood and galvanised finishers, as well as a 10.25″ Central Information Display with a new interface design, touch control and 20GB memory hard drive support system for audio files. The dashboard is set low for better visibility while the acoustic glaze on the windscreen cuts noise intrusion. The sports seats are clothed in Leather Vernasca with contrast stitching. Further, there are six ambient light tones (orange, lilac, mint, bronze, blue and white) for interior mood lighting.
Also included with the BMW X3 is the BMW ConnectedDrive suite which offers Intelligent Emergency Call, Teleservices, Concierge Services and Remote Services.
Four exterior colours are available i.e. Black Sapphire, Alpine White, Terra Brown, and Glacier Silver. For the interior upholstery, all exterior colours are best paired with Leather Vernasca Black while the former two colours can also go with Leather Vernasca Mokka.
“Today, we celebrate a new generation of the BMW X3, which in the history of the premium automotive industry, is the creator of the mid-sized premium SAV segment in 2003. This is a perfect example on the BMW belief that the best way to predict the future is to create it. With over two generations of the BMW X3, we have delivered more than 1.5 million vehicles to lead the segment all over the world. Today, the All-New BMW X3 is set to continue to write the next chapter in BMW’s success story in the premium segment,” said Mr. Harald Hoelzl, Managing Director and CEO of BMW Group Malaysia.
Hoelzl added that with over 1,000 units already delivered in 2018, the BMW X Family is enjoying a significant 39% growth in Malaysia, compared to the same period last year. Leading the charge are the BMW X5 and BMW X2. With the introduction of the new BMW X3, BMW Group Malaysia looks forward to pushing the BMW X Family further this year. “For the very first time, the independent and passionate BMW X3 is made available from launch as a locally assembled vehicle to offer our customers here a wider choice and availability of products as well as a differentiation, option and a mix from our offering of fully imported models in the premium sports activity vehicle segment,” Hoelzl added.
For the first quarter of 2018, BMW Group Malaysia delivered 3,000 BMW, MINI and Motorrad vehicles, growing 15% year-on-year (2,600 vehicles delivered in 1Q17).
The BMW X3 will be available at all authorised BMW dealerships nationwide from Wednesday, 25 April 2018, with deliveries commencing in July 2018.
