Petronas Mesra Card Members Can Enjoy Personal Accident Coverage
Petronas Dagangan Berhad (PDB) has joined forces with Shieldcard Holdings Sdn Bhd and Zurich General Insurance Malaysia Bhd to offer its Mesra loyalty card members the Mesra Personal Accident (PA) benefit.
Just by spending a minimum of RM100 a month on Petronas fuels, Mesra card members can convert 100 Mesra points (equivalent to RM1) to enjoy the benefits of the Mesra PA Plan. This plan offers 24/7 worldwide protection, including Accidental Hospital Income of RM50/day for a maximum of 30 days per insured event.
Should an unfortunate death or permanent disablement happen to a Mesra card member in an accident, the family or next-of-kin of the member will be entitled to a cash payment of up to RM25,000 (this increases to RM50,000 if the insured incident occurs on a public holiday gazetted by Malaysia).
Petronas Mesra card members who sign up for the Mesra PA Plan will also get enrolled in the AXXESS programme (initiated by Shieldcard Holdings) for free, to collect AXXESSpoints at participating merchants nationwide. AXXESSpoints can be used to reduce or pay in full its members’ annual motor insurance premium.
The AXXESS programme went live in August 2017 with the aim to leverage on consumers’ everyday spending habits to provide a solution for the escalating cost of insurance, specifically private healthcare and motor insurance.
“Coincidentally, Petronas Dagangan was one of our very first merchants to partner the AXXESS programme,” said Tunku Naquiyuddin Ibni Tuanku Jaafar, Executive Chairman of Shieldcard Holdings.
All Mesra card members will receive an SMS or email from Petronas regarding this benefit, and members who want to sign up for the Mesra PA Plan will be directed to a dedicated website. Mesra card members who sign up for this plan before 28 February 2018 will also receive complimentary Mesra PA benefit for the first month.
“Today’s partnership is a result of seeing through our customers’ lens to widen our loyalty programme benefits to include things that are essential, such as insurance coverage,” explained PDB’s Head of Retail Business Division Aadrin Azly. “Being in the business of fueling our customers’ everyday journey, road safety is naturally of highest concern and we hope that our customers will take this opportunity to get themselves covered as it is only at a mere RM1 per month,” he added.
Chief Executive Officer of Zurich Insurance Malaysia, David Fike, added “The introduction of the Mesra PA benefit is consistent with our aim to extend protection to Malaysians, especially those who are generally underinsured or have no insurance coverage. This programme is an ideal way for Mesra card members to get the protection they need without incurring any additional cost”. Mr Fike also commented that although over 55% of Malaysians have insurance, a good number of this is employer-provided insurance (which ends with the end of employment) and many of the insured do not have sufficient coverage.
