Hot into the celebration of Mercedes-AMG’s 50th anniversary, comes the stylish and powerful Mercedes-AMG E63 S 4MATIC+. Not only does the new E63 come to you more powerful than ever before, it also comes along with a number of upgrades that would sooth both the racer and the tech lover in you.

Mercedes-AMG E 63 s 4MATIC+ (5) - Malaysia 2017If you think the E63 is no different from a normal E-Class, think again. Look closer and you will see the subtle changes that designers and aerodynamicists in Affalterbach made to make the E63 much more fun to drive around road and track. For starters, the bonnet is inset between the wings and bumper like on a coupé. The car is also wider by 27mm with the wheel arches flared wider too to accommodate the car’s greater track width and larger wheels. The AMG cross-spoke forged wheels and 20-inch tyres connect the E63 to the ground.

You also get a new radiator grille with twin louvres on the front to not only help cool the engine but also give the car a distinctive look. Look at the E63 from the side and you will see side sill panels that gave the car a lowered look and an elongated line. While a defined spoiler lip on the back completes the muscular and aggressive look.

Mercedes-AMG E 63 s 4MATIC+ (20) Engine - Malaysia 2017At the heart of the E63 lies a 4.0-litre V8 biturbo engine with twin-scroll turbochargers. The biturbo engine produces 612bhp and 850Nm of torque between 2,500 and 4,500rpms. This means that the E63 can power to a century sprint in just 3.4 seconds! Unfortunately, Mercedes-AMG has limited the top speed to 300km/h (AMG Drivers package), so unless you are a professional driver, you won’t be able to find out the new E63’s real pace.

The E63’s V8 engine is connected to an AMG Speedshift MCT nine-speed sports transmission that is specifically tuned by Mercedes-AMG’s Affalterbach engineers to bring out the optimum drive in the car. Engineers have inserted a special software that enables short shift times and fast multiple downshifts in the car. They even replaced the torque converter with a wet start-off clutch to save weight and optimise the response time to the driver’s accelerator pedal.

You can only get the E63 with the AMG Performance 4MATIC+ all-wheel drive system that engineers have spent hours working to improve. The new 4MATIC+ system is now fully variable and ensures optimum traction right up to the physical limit. This gives you a high driving stability and brilliant handling on all conditions whether it be wet or dry.

Mercedes-AMG E 63 s 4MATIC+ (23) - Malaysia 2017Although the E63 is urgent off the line, Mercedes-AMG has made efforts to help keep the car fuel efficient as well. With a combined fuel consumption of 8.8 litres per 100km and CO2 emissions of 199 g/km, the E63 sets a new record in fuel emissions compared to its class rivals. This is achieved by the smart AMG Cylinder Management system that deactivates cylinders two, three, five and eight. The system interacts with the engine management system and CAMTRONIC valve lift adjustment. This means the car will be cruising along win half engine mode which is achieved by shutting off the relevant intake and exhaust valves.

Mercedes-AMG E 63 s 4MATIC+ (31) Dynamic Select - Malaysia 2017The fun of the E63 doesn’t end there, Mercedes also added new features to the AMG Dynamic Select drive programs as well. While you still get the usual Comfort, Sport, Sport Plus and Individual to adjust the car to your liking, you are now allowed to press the “M” button to switch directly to manual mode. Mercedes has even made RaceStart simpler for everyone. All the driver has to do is put the car in Sport, Sport+ or Race, depress and release both brakes and throttle simultaneously and let the car fly.

The engineers from AMG also made sure to include optional software like the AMG Track Pace app which supplements the Racetimer allowing you to analyse and improve your track driving style. All data collected by the Track Pace app (speed, gear, steering angle, time, position and temperature) are transmitted into COMAND Online for easy viewing.

You can also take your pick from the AMG Performance Studio to personalise your E63 further. The Night package offers attractive wheel alternatives and two carbon fibre packages gives you more options to customise the exterior specification. The Performance package is available for spicing up the interior which will see the steering wheel replaced with one wrapped in Nappa leather/ DINAMICA microfibre as well as performance seats.

The E63 S 4MATIC+ costs RM998,888 on the road without insurance, but only if you decide not to personalise the car. Expect the price to jump when further customised options are added.

Mercedes-AMG E 63 s 4MATIC+ (37) Edition 1 - Malaysia 2017Mercedes-Benz Malaysia also has the E63 S 4MATIC+ Edition 1 on exclusive offer as well. While there is no limited number of Edition 1s said to go on sale, the car is available for just a short period of time to those who wants a touch more glam in their E63. The Edition 1 comes with designo Night black magno paint finish with dynamic stripes on the side sill panels and new AMG 20-inch forged wheels in matt black with high-gloss polished rim flange, and the Night package.
