What you get for that price is a luxury coupe that is powered by a 5.0L naturally aspirated V8 engine running an Atkinson cycle, with VVT-i and D-4S direct injection, that’s mated to a relatively small and light Direct Shift 10-speed automatic gearbox, sending 470 PS and 540 Nm of torque to the rear wheels. The Lexus LC 500 is capable of a 0 – 100 km/h sprint in 4.4 seconds, with top speed limited to 270 km/h.
The LC 500 is built on the latest Lexus Global Architecture – Luxury (GA-L) platform and its design comes from the LF-LC concept where little has been changed, looks-wise. There is liberal use of ultra-high- and high-tensile steel, carbon fiber and aluminum for increased rigidity and weight-savings. Distinctive features of the car include the compact 3-point LED headlamps (made to look larger by the signature sharp LED daytime running lights), slim air curtains, and tail lamps with 3D light effect embellished with katana blade tip trim. The katana blade motif is also seen on the chrome strips that border the carbon fiber roof. The signature spindle grille pattern has been re-designed with a gradient. Not immediately noticeable (because there are so many design elements distracting the eye) is the spindle shape mimicked in the rear of the car, below the speed-activated rear spoiler.
The interior of the LC 500 is reflective of its status as the brand’s flagship coupe, with crafted details and fine leather and Alcantara. The occupant layout is very driver-centric, while the passenger side feels more open. The 8″ round digital instrument cluster takes inspiration from the LFA, as does the rotary Drive Mode selector. Other features of note include a 10.3″ touchscreen with a touch controller, 13-speaker Mark Levinson sound system, ventilated seats and a gear lever covered in hand-stitched leather.
The LC 500 is equipped with Lexus Dynamic Handling (LDH) which is an active rear steering system that also works with the electric power steering and variable gear ratio steering systems as well as a Torsen limited slip differential that distributes torque between the rear wheels. Safety features include a blind spot monitoring system, Rear Cross Traffic Alert and 8 airbags.
