Ford Continues ‘Driving Skills for Life’ Programme To Drive Safety Message

Ford and its local distributor, Sime Darby Auto Connexion (SDAC), it a continuous joint effort to increase road safety awareness in Malaysia, had invited over 140 local drivers to the Driving Skills for Life (DSFL) programme.

This group of drivers is made up of CitiClub by CitiBank members, Sime Darby Berhad employees, Ford Malaysia’s social media channels’ fans, as well as the general public, and were invited to attend the 6 half-day training sessions by a panel of safety experts, at the Malaysia Agro Exposition Park Serdang (MAEPS).

“Driving Skills for Life is designed to equip drivers with the skills they need to be better and safer on the road. Road safety is a very serious issue and we feel it is our responsibility to help reinforce this message among Malaysian motorists,” said Syed Ahmad Muzri Syed Faiz, Managing Director, Sime Darby Auto Connexion.

DSFL is Ford’s flagship global corporate social responsibility (CSR) programme which offers hands-on driver training free-of-charge. The DSFL workshops addressed the common risks that drivers face on the road such as dealing with unexpected situations, the perils of distracted driving (e.g. using mobile phones while driving), hazard recognition, speed/space management and the importance of ensuring child seats are securely fastened.

“Malaysian Institute of Road Safety Research (MIROS) reported that 7,152 people were killed in 521,466 road accidents last year,” he continued. “Programmes like this will eventually help reduce road accidents in the country, and that’s what we are aiming for.”

In Asia, Ford DSFL is now in its 10th successful year of training licensed drivers of all ages. DSFL training is also provided in China, India, Myanmar, Philippines, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam.
