There was initial doubt that the 33rd Thailand International Motor Expo will be held this year following the passing of Thailand’s monarch, His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej and the government announced a mourning period of 1 year.
But Mr Kwanchai Paphatphong, President of IMC and organizing chairman of the Motor Expo confirmed that the event will go on as scheduled with a few tweaks as a show of respect for the mourning period. For one thing, it will be a more subdued affair with no noisy/colorful lights and sounds or show dancers. The “Smart Pretty Vote 2016” will also be held off and all participating car companies with model talents (a.k.a. pretties) must submit their outfit scheme for approval by the Organizer prior to the start of the Motor Expo to ensure they’re not too scanty.
Autoworld.com.my is here in Bangkok for the Press Day tomorrow (30 November). The theme of this year’s show is “Connect The World… Connect People : Smart Vehicles”. There will be a total of 37 car makes from 9 countries and 21 motorcycle brands from 8 countries at this year’s Motor Expo.
We will be expecting 3 concept cars – Hyundai Enduro Concept, a sleek 3-door crossover with the Veloster vibe powered by a 2-liter turbocharged engine and dual clutch gearbox; Mitsubishi XM Concept, a SUV-MPV-type 7-seater crossover powered by a 1.5-liter engine; and the Nissan Navara EnGuard Concept, a rescue truck concept.
We are also expecting to see 10 new car launches at the show as well as other promotions such as “Buy A Car, Win A Car”, “SMS To Win A Car”, etc. As for the motorcycles, the Motor Expo will see the Asia Pacific launch of the Triumph Thruxton R T120 and the local launch of Kawasaki Supernaked Z900 and Ryuka Breakout 150.
