Land Rover Defender Making A Comeback?

The Land Rover Defender, which was officially discontinued in January this year after a 67-year production run could be making a comeback if the rumors are true.

James RatcliffeAccording to The Times UK, chemicals tycoon James Ratcliffe had started discussions with executives in Jaguar Land Rover, which is owned by India’s Tata Motors. Ratcliffe, founder-chairman of the Ineos Group is reportedly worth $6.2 billion and is said to have bought one of the last Defenders produced.

The Defender was discontinued as Jaguar Land Rover could not keep up with the stricter emissions standards and crash regulations.

However, it is unclear if Ratcliffe is injecting capital to revive the production of the Defender or is interested to buy the intellectual property or parts of the production line.
