The Art Of Speed Malaysia 2016
The Art of Speed (AOS), Malaysia’s very own homegrown Ol-Skool & Kustom Kulture event, happened last weekend at the Malaysia Agro Exposition Park (MAEPS) in Serdang and attracted over 30,000 visitors with some coming from Philippines, Brunei, Indonesia, Thailand, Taiwan, Australia, Japan and USA. Now in its fifth installment, the Art of Speed is known for its lifestyle automotive show, customized cars and bikes, art and interactive activities.
This year’s Art of Speed introduced PAINTHEAD ASIA, which is a regional group art show featuring renowned artists like Bacon Decoration “Jun” of Japan, Arkiv Vilmansa & Fahmi Freeflow of Indonesia, Mr Pinman & Twocs Itthipong of Thailand, Mark SBTG & Feroze McLeod of Singapore and own homeboys Adrian Nunis “Affa Project” & Ezudean Ishak “Rolling Ink”. This exhibition was the first of its kind in Asia and helped foster collaborations between local and international artists.
These artists put their designs on helmets sponsored by Japanese brand, Beetle Helmet and sold them via silent auction.
An attraction at this year’s show included special appearances by personalities such as Jason Webber from ATR Choppers USA, Jeff Leighton from The Wretched Hive USA, skateboard legend Steve
Caballero from USA, Shige Suganuma & Wildman from MOONEYES Japan, Dino Dalle Carbonare from
Speedhunters.com Japan, Hi-Technix Japan Lowrider Hopping Show from Japan, Koji Hamada from Hammer Sycle Japan, Kaichiroh Kurosu from Cherry’s Company Japan, The Nash from Burnout Magazine Japan and art collective pinstripe group from Japan – Makoto, Mr. G, Jetwrench and Boo.
Other attractions were the Show and Shine competition, Street Tuner Village, stunt & trial shows featuring local riders, an art gallery themed Moto Circus with local and international artists, Kustom & Coffee Talk, as well as activities for the children and families such as Giant Bubble, Star Wars costumed charity photo opportunities, a Soapbox Show & Go!, marketplace and a youth arena featuring an indoor skate park.
Another biggie at AOS2016 was its second Mega Club Gathering that brought together classic, retro and ol’ skool vehicle owners at the huge 3-acre exclusive parking lot. The Mega Club Gathering was introduced in 2015 to fulfill the community’s request for a gathering in free-to-roam event area.
Asep Ahmad, the founder AOS said that he hopes this initiative will be a positive catalyst for all ol’ skool clubs in Malaysia to remain active and take the opportunity at AOS to gather and enjoy the VIP treatment with world-class facilities.
Additionally, the organizers also launched their official mobile application “Art of Speed Malaysia” for
iOS and Android smartphones, the first automotive community event mobile app in Malaysia.
A highlight for the show visitors was the grand lucky draw prize – a 2016 Triumph Bonneville Street Twin motorcycle sponsored by Fast Bikes Sdn Bhd, the sole distributor of Triumph Motorcycles Malaysia, which was won by a visitor from Kelantan.
Aside, the winners of Best of Show motorcycle and automobile categories this year win a trip to the MOONEYES Yokohama Hotrod and Custom Show this December as Guests Of Honor.
