UR-V – One Of Three Trademarks Filed By Honda In China
There’s going to be a new Honda in town (in China, at least) and it’s called the UR-V according to the filing document. The new member to the Honda family will be the flagship SUV/crossover, sitting atop the CR-V, and is most likely based on the Honda Concept D mid-sized crossover which was exhibited at the 2015 Shanghai Motor Show.
Incidentally, the American Honda Pilot is also a mid-sized crossover though it’s unclear if they’ll share any architecture or parts. Perhaps the UR-V is a spiffier looking Honda Pilot for Asia. The Pilot and Honda’s premium Acura MDX (which shares the Pilot’s platform) feature third row seats and the UR-V is expected to follow suit.
The UR-V however, is unlikely to share the Pilot/MDX’s 3L or 3.5L engines. Instead, Chinese media has reported the use of 2.4L naturally aspirated and 2L turbocharged engines. Both engine choices will be paired with 6-speed automatic gearbox. The UR-V is expected to be priced between 250,000 Yuan (RM 155k) and 425,000 Yuan (RM 263k).
The production version of the UR-V should be shown at the Beijing Motor Show next month.
Along with this filing, Honda also filed for trademarks for WR-V and CD-X, both also crossovers based on the Jazz/Fit platform; the HR-V (called XR-V in China and looks decidedly distinct) also shares this platform so it looks like Honda is preparing for a hot crossover market.
