Russ Swift Featuring Subaru
In conjunction with the regional launch of the Malaysia-assembled 2016 Subaru Forester at the Bangkok International Motor Show, journalists from the region and Subaru’s guests were treated to some stunt driving by precision driving guru, Russell Swift.
Armed with various Subaru models, including the newly-launched Forester, Russ Swift showed off his signature skills performing J-turns, donuts and parallel parking (not the way you and I do it) with a few lucky journalists as passengers. All Subarus used were in stock form.
Russ Swift was a two-time British Autotest Champion and England Autotest Team Captain in 1982 and 1983. Autotesting is a motorsport similar to autocross and motorkhana and involves sliding and skidding the car through a tight test course in the quickest time.
In 2004 and true to his name, Swift set a Guinness World Record for making 10 complete spins with a car (donuts) in just 16.07 seconds, a mere 1.6 seconds per spin.
He is also known for his stunt driving in the 1987 Austin Montego “Car Park” commercial which was featured at the Cannes Film Festival and voted the world’s most imaginative car commercial in U.S.A. Since then, Russ has established himself as the world’s number one precision driver with numerous TV commercials and car launches to his credit. His work engagements have brought him all over the world, from Indonesia to Taiwan to Thailand and even to Korea, Egypt and Holland. At the same time, Russ has been invited to perform at the Scottish, Ulster, British, The Philippines and New York motor shows. Aside from these, he has appeared in TV shows like Top Gear and 5th Gear (he could even be The Stig!).
In addition to stunt car driving, Russ also acts as an advisor to many police, military, royal and diplomatic drivers. He has also been engaged in projects with various safety bodies to promote safe driving. Russ’ very first and deepest passion lies with classic cars and motorcycles. His two children – Jayne and Paul Swift are also following daddy’s ‘tire tracks’. Paul has won the British Autotest Championship in 2004, 2005, 2006 and 2007 and Jayne is a member of the Russ Swift Precision Driving team.
