Hyundai Issues Recall For Equus And Genesis Over Wiper Fault

Hyundai Motor Co. has issued a recall in South Korea and America for the Equus and Genesis luxury sedans due to a fault with the windshield wipers.

Some of the windshield wiper motors in both models were manufactured with a defective cover seal that is prone to degradation. Water can eventually enter the internal components, corroding the motor’s printed circuit board and in some cases, cause the motor to become intermittently or permanently disabled.

“If the windshield wipers become inoperative during inclement weather, driver visibility could be reduced, increasing the risk of a crash,” the company notes. However, there has been no known reports of accidents or injuries resulting from this.

In South Korea a total of 25,441 Equus and Genesis luxury sedans are affected. The problem has been detected in 10,978 Equus sedans produced between July 10, 2011, and June 12, 2012, and 14,463 Genesis sedans manufactured between Aug. 1, 2011, and April 30, 2012.
