Toyota Confirms Production Of C-HR Crossover
Toyota has confirmed the production of its C-HR crossover concept. This news comes as the production version of the C-HR is set to make its debut at the Geneva Motor Show this March. The C-HR concept was first shown in the 2014 Paris Auto Show and last year, at the Frankfurt, Los Angeles and Tokyo shows.
It was displayed as a Scion (Toyota’s youth brand) concept in Los Angeles but that’s in the past as Toyota has put the Scion brand to rest.
The C-HR will use the Toyota New Global Architecture platform that debuted with the 2016 Prius hybrid sedan and very likely will share the same powertrain; or could it be a 1.5L 3-cylinder engine from BMW as a result of their development partnership? “We are entering the C-segment crossover market with a fantastic product and with a hybrid powertrain from the start,” said Johan van Zyl, President and CEO, Toyota Motor Europe. Non-hybrid versions could come later.
As for its looks, the test cars are still heavily camouflaged but it’s more than likely to maintain much of that razor-sharp look of the concept, seeing how Toyota has been swinging its design language to the youthful side. Dimensions are said to be 4,350mm long, 1,850mm wide and 1,500mm high with a low center of gravity and increased structural rigidity. In comparison, the Honda HR-V is 4,294mm long, 1,772mm wide and 1,605mm high. Spy shots of the test car also indicate it to be a 4-door version.
