Mercedes-Benz X-Class And/Or Z-Class?
The rumor mill has been turning with news of a Mercedes-Benz pickup truck that will come to market in 2018. Pictures of an alleged test mule based on the Nissan Navara have been floating about cyberspace.
The other rumor is of a compact Mercedes-Benz SUV/crossover based off the Renault Captur SUV, also part of the Renault-Nissan stable. This new SUV is said to be smaller than the GLA and will be appropriately placed beneath it.
The rumors have been pinning the ‘X-Class’ moniker on the pickup while some are calling it a ‘Z-Class’ instead and betting the ‘X’ will be used for the baby SUV.
So will there be an ‘X-Class’ AND a ‘Z-Class’ come 2018? We’ll only know for sure once it’s official but off-hand, logic makes me ask “Why would Mercedes-Benz build a pickup truck?”. Are they enamored by the sales numbers of the US$ 64,000 Cadillac Escalade EXT and thinking there’s a lucrative market for luxury pickups?
