Perodua Global Manufacturing Sdn Bhd Official Opening
Perodua Global Manufacturing Sdn Bhd (PGMSB), the country’s first energy efficient vehicle (EEV) manufacturing plant was officially opened today and as the name reflects, is a step for Perodua towards becoming a player in the global market.
A total of RM1.3 billion was invested to build and equip the 64,000 square meter manufacturing plant which features an increased level of advanced automation from the older facility.
“PGMSB is one of Perodua’s main transformation initiatives to become a globally competitive bran in terms of quality , cost management and delivery,” said Perodua Chairman YBhg Tan Sri Asmat Kamaludin.
The new manufacturing plant was officiated by YB Dato’ Seri Hamzah Zainuddin, Minister of Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism, representing The Right Honourable Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, Deputy Prime Minister.
Also gracing the event was His Excellency Dr Makio Miyagawa, Japanese Ambassador to Malaysia; Mr Koichi Ina, Chairman of Daihatsu Motor Co., Ltd.; YB Datuk (Dr) Aminar Rashid Salleh, Perodua President & CEO and YBhg Datuk Ahmad Suhaimi Hashim, PGMSB Managing Director.
Construction of the new plant began in 2013 and production first started in August 2014 with 138,000 units of Perodua Axia delivered as of December 2015. The Perodua Axia is claimed to be the first locally manufactured EEV.
“The design, technology and concept of this facility are based on the “Simple, Slim and Compact” philosophy,” Asmat said. “Simple here refers to the work process which is easy to understand and implement; while Slim refers to efficiency and dedication towards the elimination of wastage – in all forms – and Compact refers to the maximisation of space for optimum production,” he further explained.
