2017 Ford Fusion Sport

Ford Motor Co showed off the 2017 Ford Fusion Sport at the Detroit Motor Show, and if it looks vaguely familiar, it’s because we know the Fusion as the Mondeo (read our test drive and shootout reviews). Of course what we have isn’t anywhere near the league of the Fusion Sport.

It may be a facelift but the 2017 Ford Fusion Sport sports a new 2.7L twin turbo V6 EcoBoost engine producing 325hp and 475Nm of torque, just about enough to technically leave quite a few sport sedans in the dust; in comparison, the 2016 BMW 340i has 320hp and 447Nm of torque from a 3L six-cylinder engine. This engine will be paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission. The regular variants will get a 1.5L or 2L EcoBoost with new twin-scroll turbochargers with respective outputs of 200hp and 250hp.

But more than just a facelift and sporty engine, Ford will pack the Fusion with some of the latest and greatest technology. Pedestrian detection, hands-free perpendicular and parallel parking, lane-keep assist and blindspot information with cross-traffic alert are just some of it.

The Ford Fusion will also be loaded with SYNC3, Ford’s latest communication and entertainment suite with Apple CarPlay and AndroidAuto capability. This system is claimed to be faster, more intuitive and able to recognize more conversational commands. Owners can also opt to add SYNC CONNECT which allows them to lock and unlock the car via smartphone, remotely start the car and schedule future starts.

2017 Ford Fusion Sport Interior

Drive-wise, the Fusion Sport is all-wheel-drive and comes with pothole detection technology which quickly adjusts the shock absorbers via the real-time suspension tuning system (can’t wait for this to be available here, personally speaking). And if you take a closer look at the interior, you’ll notice a knob in place of the gear selector lever. An assertive look, 19″ wheels, spoiler and twin exhausts complete that sporty look.

In the Fusion family too are the Fusion Platinum (positioned above the Titanium), Fusion Hybrid and Fusion Energi plug-in hybrid.
