UMW Toyota Motor has announced that the ongoing recall of vehicles fitted with defective Takata airbag inflators have been expanded to include an additional 29,985 Toyota vehicles sold in Malaysia manufactured between April 2007 and December 2008.

This latest announcement brings the total number of Toyota vehicles in Malaysia involved in this global scale recall of unprecedented proportions to over 145,000 vehicles. In this instance, the recall affects passenger airbag modules of the Yaris, Vios, and Corolla Altis manufactured in the specified period.

Previously, UMW Toyota had already recalled 18,700 vehicles in April 2013 and a further 97,000 in May this year to inspect and replace the potentially faulty airbag modules.

As before, UMW Toyota will contact all customers affected by this campaign to have their vehicles inspected immediately by an authorized service centre. In the event of a defective module, said component will be replaced at no charge to the consumer.
