Rolls-Royce Motor Cars is in the midst of developing an all-new convertible model scheduled for launch in the first quarter of 2016. The new model, which will be named ‘Dawn’, was unveiled behind closed doors at the company’s world dealer conference in Los Angeles, California.

“Dawn is a beautiful new open-top motor car with a name that suggests the fresh opportunities that every new day holds – an awakening, an opening up of one’s senses and a burst of sunshine. It will be the most social of super-luxury motor cars for those beautiful people who wish to bathe in the sunlight of the world’s social hotspots,” said Torsten Mueller-Oetvoes, Chief Executive Officer.

When launched, the new Rolls-Royce Dawn revives a nameplate first used by the Rolls-Royce brand in 1949, but only ever attached 28 convertible models (dropheads in RR-speak) built between 1950 and 1954. At the time, the original Rolls-Royce Silver Dawn was the first Rolls-Royce to be offered with a factory-built body, although drophead variants, as pictured in these official images, continued to be coach-built.
