Honda HR-V blazes sales charts with 7,000 bookings
The all-new Honda HR-V appears to be justifying all its pre-launch hype, stirring up impressive levels of interest amongst car buyers throughout the country. In a statement released by the company today, Honda Malaysia disclosed that its latest model has picked up over 7,000 bookings in its first month on sale.
Slotting in below the highly-successful CR-V mid-size crossover SUV, the compact HR-V is available in three variants – Grade S, Grade E, and Grade V priced RM 99,800, RM108,800, and RM118,800 respectively. According to Honda, some 65 percent of orders went to the range-topping V model, with the S and E variants accounting for 15 and 20 percent respectively.
Whilst the HR-V was widely tipped to be a winner, the sheer number of orders pouring in caught even Honda Malaysia by surprise, leading to a four-month waiting period for anyone ready to put their money down on one today. The company has confirmed that reviews of production schedules are taking place with the aim of shortening the waiting period.
Honda Malaysia assembles the HR-V locally on the No.2 Line of its Pegoh plant in Malacca. In its statement, the company assures customers that production will not be rushed if it means compromising on build quality.
The HR-V’s strong sales performance has been a key factor in leading Honda to a barnstorming start in 2015. In January, the company sold 6,522 vehicles to cement its position as the country’s leading non-national passenger vehicle brand with the City, Jazz, Civic, and Accord all leading their respective segments.
The strong momentum was carried into February with over 6,000 units of all models sold and 11,047 bookings collected, the latter figure being the highest ever in Honda Malaysia’s history. The company has expressed confidence in achieving its overall sales target of 85,000 units for the whole of 2015.
