SIC confirms programme for 2015 Malaysia F1 GP
The Sepang International Circuit (SIC) has unveiled its programme for this year’s 2015 Formula 1 Petronas Malaysia Grand Prix. Scheduled to take place from 27 to 29 March, the Malaysia GP will be the second race of the 2015 F1 season after the season opener at Melbourne on 15 March.
A major change to be implemented in this year’s race will be a return to the 3pm flag-off time after six years of late flag-offs since 2009 to accommodate European audiences. According to SIC Chairman Tan Sri Mokhzhani Mahathir, the decision in reverting to an earlier flag-off is part of an overall approach to make this year’s race an event attractive to families and people of all ages.
Besides the race itself as well as qualifying and practice sessions, this year’s programme – themed ‘Experience F1 Like Never Before’ will feature a number of family and children-friendly activities in a bid to become an event fit for a family weekend outing. A carnival-like setup is planned with attractions such as a fun fair, amusement rides, and even karting and drifting.
Leading up to the race weekend, promotional activities for the event are in full swing on both the international and domestic front. Title sponsors Petronas are displaying their very own Mercedes AMG Petronas W06 Hybrid F1 car in various road shows locally and abroad whilst the SIC Zoomers Roadshow will be visiting at least 20 venues across the country bringing with them ticket promotions and other prizes.
The day before race weekend, on 26 March, the SIC’s exclusive Malaysia Grand Prix Gala 2015 to be held at the Plenary Hall of Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre will feature The Jacksons as its main act.
On the track itself, action of the F1 race will be supplemented by Round 1 of the Malaysia Championship Series and the Malaysia leg of the TCR International Series touring car race as its two support races. Finally, the weekend will close with an after-race concert to be headlined by the famous Lenny Kravitz.
Tickets for the race are open for sale and can be purchased online, through appointed ticket agents, at SIC’s official ticket booth at NU Sentral Mall, or by calling the SIC Ticket Hotline at +603 8778 2222. Prices begin from RM80 to RM160 for Hillstand tickets going up to RM280 – RM660 for Grandstands F and K1, RM440 for the Tower, and RM340 – RM1,770 at the Main Grandstand.
